The Ocean Course and The Pines, two of the toughest golf course in the United States
From time to time, one must try to go outside, in fact, way outside their comfort zone in order to taste the adventures of life.
Same applies to the game of golf. One must always test themselves by visiting some of the toughest golf courses around the world and play under the hardest conditions one can ever imagine.
Many players around the world choose the golf courses that grab their collars on the first tee and slap them for around five to six hours. Afterwards, are allowed to take their remains back into the clubhouse for the recovery process.
These types of courses are meant to be of torturing nature and are best suited to the players who love challenges in their lives.
The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island and The Pines at The International are some of the best and the toughest golf courses designed for such kind of players.
The Ocean Course, venue for this year’s PGA Championship, held last week, was designed by one of the renowned golf course architect Pete Dye in 1991 and has been torturing the players since.
The Ocean Course is known for its strong winds and rapid weather changes. It is often seen that players make huge changes during the game, even by eight-club difference during different holes.
Once, Dye’s wife Alice gave a suggestion of raising the whole golf course in order to provide players a beautiful view of the Atlantic coast line.
The idea was accepted later on. However, it also made the course significantly more demanding.
Therefore, if one ever visits the Northern Hemisphere and misses the opportunity of playing golf at Kiawah Island, they will miss the most interesting part of their voyage.
On the other hand, The Pines is the longest golf course in North America, boasting almost 8,400 yards and consistently lists among toughest golf courses in the United States.
The figures are amazing and different at this course. The 18th hole is 656 yards long and it is not the longest of all par-five holes present at the site.  Moreover, the course also features a par-six fifth hole, which is spread over 715 yards.
Besides the length, other hurdles also make the course difficult to play on, like the par-five 11th hole features a total of 24 bunkers, which is a big number compared to traditional golf courses.
By and large, if one wants to play each of the holes at The Pines, they must take at least a couple of days off out of their routine.
The American soil is rich with difficult and challenging golf courses. However, the abovementioned ones rank at the top of the list each year because of updated design and consistent changes with the passage of time.
