Question:

The Official Decision.?

In MMA, I notice that after someone taps out, or the refs stop it, they announce, "We'll be back with the official decision" Or "Here's Bruce Buffer with the official decision"

My Question is, is it always FOR SURE that the person who got the submission, or TKO or Ko or w.e. will win?

  1. yes the annoucment is just a professional way to say its time for a commercial. and yea its for sure.

  2. Yes. They just announce exactly how it ended. For example, if it was a submission, they announce the type of submission (for example rear naked choke). Or if it is a TKO, they announce that. Just a formality to end the fight. It is done in all circumstances.

So, to answer your question, it is "for sure" that the person will win. Sometimes people get disqualified, so that is another way the opponent can win (for example illegal strike to back of head too many times).

  3. No. Grey Maynard versus Rob Emerson, Maynard slammed Emerson down so hard that he tapped out, the show went to commercial and came back with th official decision of no contest. The ref. decided that even though Emerson tapped he was tapping out against an unconscious opponent. They ruled it a no contest. After several replays people still debate over the outcome. Maynard took down Emerson but hit his own head pretty hard on the mat. looked iffy to me.

  4. 99.999999999999% of the time yes the person that tapped is the loser.

The official decision is kind of like in horse racing when you see the horse that crossed the line 1st, you know who won but the results are unofficial until they are announced.

For the record I have never seen someone that tapped be the "official" winner.
