The PCB asks for ICC’s consultation before finalizing the World Cup squad
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) has asked for International Cricket Council’s (ICC) consultations before finalising the names of the players for the 30-member preliminary squad of next month’s World Cup.
According to details, PCB has again requested the ICC to allow it to name the players accused of spot-fixing in the 30 member squad ahead of the World Cup.
On Thursday, PCB integrity committee held meetings with players who had not been cleared by the PCB for selection on the behest of the ICC. These players are apart from the trio of Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif who are facing charges of allegedly
being involved in spot-fixing by having links with a bookmaker named http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed.
The players that were called by the integrity committee included former skipper batsman Shoaib Malik, Kamran Akmal and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314. Although there is no evidence against them, still the ICC has expressed some suspensions on their involvement in match-fixing
and links with bookies.
The PCB had asked these players to disclose the details of their financial assets so that the board could be assured that there weren’t any discrepancies in their income.
However, the integrity committee decided not to reveal its findings to the media until further consultations with the ICC. This caused the selection committee to delay the names of the probables of the ODI squad for the series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 and for the
upcoming World Cup because until the players are cleared by the integrity committee the selection committee cannot finalize its selection of players.
The PCB has until 5th of this month to submit names of the players for the World Cup squad and now the PCB wants to persuade the ICC to allow the board to name the cricketers allegedly suspected of spot-fixing in the preliminary squad.
The hearing of the trio that includes Butt, Amir and Asif would begin from the 6th of this month lasting till the 11th and in case the players get cleared by the ICC’s anti-corruption tribunal, the PCB would definitely want them to
play the World Cup.
For this to happen the names of the trio has to be in the preliminary squad otherwise they will miss the world cup even if they get acquitted by the ICC.
