  1. It would be better to toss it.

  2. Repeal it.  It's not authorized by the Constitution -  the 4th Amendment requires a warrant backed up by a judge's signature (oath or affirmation).  National Security Letters violate the 1st Amendment, because you're not allowed to tell anyone (even a judge) that you've received one.

  3. Oh, why not go ahead and enact Martial Law and be sure we're all safe?  Maybe there's even be a proviso that we can keep Bush, Cheney, Rove, and the rest rather than taking a chance.  And Rumsfeld too, while we're at it.  After all, they've SURELY learned from their experience, haven't they?  As Reagan used to say, hasn't YOUR life improved these last four years?

What was General Westmoreland's quote justifying the My Lai massacre?  "We had to destroy the village in order to save it."  Why not the same logic for the Constitution and the Bill of Rights?

  4. Repeal it! We let anyone walk across our borders into this country and then spend millions spying on our own citizens. How's this for an idea? Take the money spent on spying on our own citizens and use it to secure our borders?

  5. I would suggest a third option:

Learn enough about it to make an informed decision.

I am willing to bet that those of you who criticize the act have Never Even Bothered To Read It.

Are your criticisms are based on what somebody with an agenda told you?

  6. Those who are willing to give up freedon for safety and security deserve neither,.. Ben Franklin..

    Repeal the thing.

  7. Repeal it.  I agree with the Ben Franklin quote.  And the Patriot Act exists out of fear, and I agree with FDR that the only thing to fear is fear itself.  But I would add we should fear those who want to control us with fear (that would be Bush, Cheney, the neocons, and those who wrote the Project for the New American Century).

  8. Mike, did your college class tell you why we need it or just criticize the criticizers?

I didn't need a college professor to interpret it for me. I just read the Constitution, compared the two and realized it was unconstitutional. I value freedom and the Bill of Rights, the Patriot Act doesn't. Its really that simple, and it doesn't make us any safer.

  9. The Patriot Act is needed to curb terrorism.

  10. The provision in Patriot Act II include the rendition of American citizens. This means that eventually no one would be safe and a Witch Hunt with terrorists as the focus as opposed to Witches could be the result.
