  1. they observe their ramadan; we christians observe our lent. they have their own abstinence we have ours too. 2 different religions that could exist together. stop the fighting. too political!

  2. All I see is angry people cause they are hungry.

  3. Southern Philippines is still pre-dominantly Christian... only Southern Mindanao is...

I mean, in our area, we don't really much observe Ramadan, but we do respect our Muslim friends...

  4. the mere fact that it becomes a part of our national holiday, then we do observe Ramadan..

  5. its just an ordinary day for Catholics, but for us Muslims, we value the month of Ramadan by fasting and in our dinner ("bukah"- dinner for someone who is fasting) around 6:00 pm... it seems that we had a party... having delicious food! and after 30 days of fasting we celebrate the "Hariraya Puasa" or "Hariraya Eid-Al Fitri"

  6. The President declares the start and end of the Ramadan as holidays, to respect our Muslim brothers & sisters.

I just want to clarify that the Muslim population in southern Philippines (Mindanao) is not a majority, as what people from other parts of the country thinks.

Majority of the Muslims in the Philippines are in Mindanao, BUT

majority of the people in Mindanano are Christians.

  7. Yes we do as a sign of respect to the Muslims, specially because of the feud between the government and M.I.L.F. It's pretty much just like Nov.1 and 2.

  8. That's the point...Ramadan is one month long and in PI everyone will not stop eating during the day light hours to accomodate those who choose to fast.  Fasting is a personal choice, and is only meaningful when a person makes this choice of their own free will.  Having laws that force all to stop eating (meanwhile Muslims will party all night), so it's not fair to the christians to enforce this nationwide.  Just like we don't ask the Muslims to fast during the fest of Mary which just ended (did you fast for Mary's feast which was 2 weeks long?).

  9. A common misconception, South Philippines (i.e. Mindanao) is a majority Christian area. The only regions where Muslims dominate are Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, ARMM, and Cotabato.

Filipino Christians do not observe Ramadan, why should they? It's only the first day of Ramadan that the country makes a national holiday. I don't know what the government wants to do with this move, though. Ramadan month is just an ordinary month for all others.

I'm an atheist and I try at my best to respect both Christians and Muslims. And for one, I don't usually engage in proselytizing people; only when they start challenging my beliefs.

  10. Yes. South Philippines is a majority muslim area. It's been long that they want to be a separate country. Their tribe is 'moro'.

If you are not muslim then Ramadan is just ordinary day for you. Why it should be different for you if you're not muslim ?.
