Question:

The Pirates Traded Jason Bay Yesterday..Good or Bad decision?

I live in Pittsburgh, and It seems to me that the Pirate Organization has no clue what it is doing. Every Time We get a player that as any kind of potential we trade them. I honestly don't believe that the Pirates want the world series ever. Does any one else feel that this was a stupid move on the Pirates...and if you don't could you kindly explain why you feel that this was a good choice for them strategically.

Thanks

  1. I agree they don't know what they are doing. They gave away Marte and Nady. Gave up Bay. I think it is because if they have players like them and they still can't win then, they know they need to get some new players. They are trying to rebuild. Well, now they can focus on next year because they now they have to start rebuilding if they want to catch up with the Brewers, Cubs, and the Cards. It may be a stupid move now but, when three of those prospects become good then you would say that they made a good deal. As a Yankee fan I

thought the Yankees made a good deal getting Marte and Nady for Karstens, Tabata, Olendorf and another guy. Though I think the Pirates should have gotten more for those guys.

They got some really nice players in Moss and Hansen. Andy LaRoche will add another bat to their lineup and another pitcher.

  2. I'd be upset too. Pittsburgh helps everybody but themselves. I'm not a Pirate fan, but I have to thank them for the players that they've traded to the Cubs. In 2003 you traded Aramis Ramirez and Kenny Lofton for Brubeck, J. Hernadez and Bobby Hill. Doesn't sound very even. I think we also got R. Simon that year. It's not just the organizations fault though. If the seats aren't full, you can't afford to pay good players. Brian Giles, Jason Kendall, Aramis Ramirez, and so on. I'm shocked Jack Wilson is still there. If he wasn't hurt so often, he'd be gone too. You've had some great teams in the past. Until PNC fills the seats, win or lose, it will be hard to keep good players. Lots of luck.

  3. I'm a Marlins fan, and iim still blown away that we didnt get Manny ramirez (that would've been really nice) but the Pirates turned out really good in this trade. They get great young players, like Brandon Moss and can build for the future. In a couple of years they wouldn't have gotten Bay to resign anyway so at least they got good young talent for him.

But, this trade I feel pushed the Pirates into the column of re-building and they haven't won anything since the Willie Stargell era, so as a Pirates fan that must be tough, sorry. But who knows maybe in 2 or 3 years, they keep making small moves here and there (like the Marlins do) and make a run for the playoffs with this young talent. So this trade is good for the future but theres no quick fix to the Pirates team.

  4. It's bad trade for the pirates because they give there best player and barely get anything back for him

  5. Pitt was probably going to lose Bay after next year anyway, so it makes sense.  Hansen has a lot of potential and with less pressure he may develop into a really good reliever.  Moss also has good potential and plays very good defense.  Once he bats comes around, and it should, he should be a productive outfielder for the Pirates.  So don,t be upset, there is always next year.  Give the guys a shot and see what happens.

  6. Good for Jason; maybe the Pirates will follow the Oriole example and get loads of new talent for the future.

  7. Aren't all the trade they do ****?

They get minor leaguers who RARELY do anything in the MLB. And they're only adding more cockroaches to the team (LaRoche brothers.)

They're just the cheapest team in major league baseball. They should replace the pirates with some AAA team from another city cause they're management has no idea what it's doing. The more you trade your good place the more you're helping the rivals.. Dumbshits

  8. Good because Jason Bay can help out Boston and the player the Red Sox gave to the pirates can do some work.

  9. this was a god trade for the pirates a great OF in brandon moss, a good infielder, and a guy who pnce recorded a 102 mph pitch inn craig hansen and another pitcher. I think red sox and pirates got the better of the deal because id rather have manny on free agency than have him on my team

  10. they way it pans out for the butt pirates it seems to be a good trade! imagine that, they got a good backup guy in la roach, descent outfielder in moss and a pitcher in return for a guy that you wouldnt resign anyway
