Fergal Gara, the President of Sony Computer Entertainment UK, has conceded that the Move needs better content for it to be a real success.
The PlayStation Move was announced and demoed by Sony at E3 a couple of years ago and managed to create quite a buzz as the consumer electronics giant showed off how it planned to enter the motion controller gaming market.
The one-to-one movement and application of the controller really caught everyone’s imagination as to what could be achieved with the Move, in terms of gameplay. However, apart from a handful of titles, there really is nothing to keep players using the Move.
Titles such as Dead Space: Extraction and House of the Dead: Overkill are two of examples of on-rail shooters that one could term Triple-A or Double-A titles, yet apart from that there really isn’t anything that the hardcore demographic would find interesting.
Then there is Killzone 3 and S.O.C.O.M 4 both games are Triple-A titles that have Move compatibility as well, and although they do make good use of the tech, it still isn’t enough to sway the core segment of gamers.
Fergal Gara, the man in-charge of SCE UK, is of the same opinion as well. He said, “What I’m thinking is that it’s better suited towards the causal market certainly, but we also are pretty clear that we could have done a better job on the titles we’ve had and we’ve brought to market for the PlayStation Move.”
He continued by explaining what the true issue was behind the Move not being as successful as he would have hoped when he termed it as “great tech, probably not so great applications so far.”
“So there’s a job for us to do on the strength of games, and having seen what’s forthcoming gives me great hope that we can do a better job with Move as we look forward.”
One has to appreciate the honesty of Mr. Gara as he pointed out all the core issues with the software side of the PlayStation Move and one can only hope that Sony addresses those shortcomings in the future.
