The Premier League sack race
Every season, the Premier League see’s its fair share of casualties. These casualties involve both the players that are representing the clubs and/ or the managers. Here is a look at the various managers who could potentially, be on the verge of being shown
the door. It isn’t guaranteed whether or not the managers will be sacked, but if the experts are anything to go by, these managers would be on their way out if they don’t get their acts straight in the near future.
AVRAM GRANT - WEST HAM
West Ham are currently at the bottom of the Premier League table. The team has managed to get only one point from the five matches they have played so far. The most disappointing performance from the West Ham side, was the one that they gave against a manager-less
Aston Villa, who destroyed the West Ham side. The only point that the team got, was against Stoke and during the proceedings of the match, the manager took a day off.
The team has however, been improving slowly as the season is progressing. The team even put up a decent fight against Chelsea, but the score line didn’t really tell that story. The draw with Stoke and a victory in the Carling Cup, could
prove to be the turning point that the team and the manager have been hoping for.
The manager was reported to have said: "I am very optimistic about the future of this club. We know what we are doing, we have a vision about this club and I am optimistic about it. If you have seen our games, this is not the place for us (bottom of the
table), but we need to take points."
However the manager needs to get some points fast, if he hopes to save his job. The only way for him to do that, would be to help motivate his players to play better than they already are. The most crucial thing that he needs to do, is to convince the forwards
to score more goals.
ROBERTO MARTINEZ - Wigan
Wigan have conceded thirteen goals so far. The teams defense is the laughing stock in the League so far. It is understandable for a team to get beaten by Chelsea, however conceding four goals to Blackpool, just means that something is wrong with the team.
The team was just as bad in front of goal when they took on Manchester City, they recorded zero shots on target, while City were barely even playing.
The reasons, for Martinez not getting sacked, could be down to the fact that Dave Whelan has grown fond of the manager and is willing to give him plenty of time. Along with that, the teams victory against Tottenham has acted as a major boost in his chances
of staying as the teams manager.
Martinez has been reported to reflect on the season by saying: "We are playing against ourselves. It doesn't matter who the opposition are, if we don't do the things right we are going to get punished. When we put it together and show what we can do we can
compete against anyone, as the result we had at White Hart Lane showed."
The manager however needs to get his star players to performing again, if he wishes to spend more than one season at the club in the future. He also needs to focus on the teams defense and offense in the coming weeks.
