The Price Chopper Tournament crowns Cindy Lacrosse as winner
The Price Chopper Tournament saw a dramatic end to the wind led championship on the 5th of September. The exciting match at Albany involved exceptionally competent players, many lead changes and extremely difficult wind conditions. The crown however was awarded to Cindy Lacrosse who topped the 18- hole race with Jennifer Song right behind her, finishing at 2nd place.
Both ladies were striving for the dollar amount of 120,000. Song, the Duramed Future Tour’s player of the year was held off from the prize money with one spare hole. The 2010 rookie of the year played an exceptional game but the win favored LaCrosse’s fate. LaCrosse managed a 5 under 208 at the end of the game claiming the victory.
The five foot seven LaCrosse, played rounds with carded scores of 69,70 and 69 and played a Par in the 18th hole at Albany’s Capital hills in the playoffs.
The lady from Florida at Albany used her birdie-attaining strategy and won the Championship. LaCrosse amused herself with a birdie from 4 feet at the 16th and on 17th she managed a 3 putt with a distance of 25 feet. After stepping on the 18th hole LaCrosse used her 6-iron to increase the pressure on Song and hammered from 1 foot with Song following her.
Song was playing just one group behind LaCrosse who was playing like she always does, claiming birdies. After LaCrosse finished with the 18th hole, Song was the only player on the field who could tackle the leader’s score. At the 17th hole, Song whittled for a birdie with a distance of 60 feet. The five feet nine player then arrived at an 8 foot distance for the birdie putt, the calm roll towards the greens enabled Song to achieve a tie with LaCrosse.
LaCrosse at the end had faced a change in the winds behaviour and decided on choke 5-iron for the shot. She ended the hole with a Par when her putt directed the ball to halt short off the flagstick. Comparing Song’s shot with LaCrosse, she played for the right side. Her shot flew rightwards and landed on the rough green with 30 feet in between the flagstick and the ball.
Song then tackled the situation with a chip which rolled the ball 10 feet short from the hole. After the ten foot putt, Song’s Par smouldered itself when the ball ended just before the cup. The bogey hence achieved, pushed Song to the second place below LaCrosse.
According to Song, Cindy played an amazing game. She explained that LaCrosse’s ability to play like a champion handed her a game well deserved. According to Lacrosse, the weather conditions were in no way favourable. She explains that with such windy conditions, Lacrosse figured no player would be able to go much lower in scores realizing later that she was one stroke short after 15 holes. Her quick judgement and smooth shots allowed her to break the record of the single-season earning of this tour. She earned an amount of $16,800 after the Sunday’s win and ended up breaking the record with the total of $94,578.
For the third place, the pair, Schreefel and Ryann O’Toole with 69, tied themselves with Hannah Jun who stood with a 67 after a birdie on the 18th. The pair ended the game with a 4 under 209. At 68, Angela Oh and Jenny Shin with a 72 were both tied for 5th place with a 210 having 3 under.
The previous brawl for the top proved to be very exciting according to LaCrosse. She said she was very happy with her ball striking as well as the fact that she finished the season still on top. She has finished 11 top tens out of 15. LaCrosse and Song both earned the full membership for the 2011 LPGA Tour which makes the fans ever so agitated for the next year tour. They will next face each other at the LPGA.
