The 3 basic elements needed for life on earth to exist, should never have been privatised.

In fact, no one should be able to profit from them.

There should be a nominal charge to pay for the infrastructure and running costs.. and thats all...nothing more.

No, they shouldn't have been privatised, but it's too late now. As for a windfall tax, only the government will benefit there. That may dent their profits slightly but it's not going to hurt them, and in the end they'll put up their prices to make up the shortfall.

Technically we were all shareholders that never received any payments when the utilities were sold off.By far the biggest rip off involving the utilities was the sales of the vast areas of land that gas companies and coal fired power stations occupied.Most gas works were located on prime land ,normally not far from the town centres as were the power stations,and waterworks.If we protested enough the powers that be could be forced to explain how the land [tens of thousands of acres,worth billions was divided up and sold] and the names of beneficiaries made public .Stock up on the anti embarrasment tablets.Lords,Ladies,and ministers old and new.

I can imagine how that would work. Try to imagine utility bills that look like your cell phone bill. Oops, you went over your minutes. Darn, roaming water sprinkler charges. Your contract cancellation fee must be paid in advance, or you owe the entire contract. We can not restore your services  until the entire contract is paid, because you missed a payment. Due to your credit rating we will require a $3000 deposit.

While the poor who live in misery has to make sure they pay up the bills on time before they get disconnected from it in time.

How impressive that look rich but stealing without even paying for it too.

In short-changing, conning and deceiving little children in broad daylights in own backyards among their own kind with self lack of knowledge.

Considering the government doesn't know its butt from a hole in the ground, I prefer them having their grubby, little hands on as few life-affecting areas of my life as possible.
