The Pucker Up reels in massive field of 3-year-old fillies at Arlington Park
The $100,000 Grade 3 Pucker Up Stakes attracts a large field. For long, the Grade 3 event has been one of Arlington Park’s most watched and popular race events and the proof is an overflowing field of fourteen 3-year-old fillies getting ready to compete
over a distance of 1 1/8 miles on grass.
The 3-year-old Thomas Proctor trained filly, Marketing Mix, could be among the favourites to win the race, after he went on to win in the $250,000 Wonder Where Stakes at Woodbine racecourse.
The filly posted her second win of the season, with the first coming in her maiden special race, which she succeeded in breaking in her second attempt.
Her maiden special weight race was at Keeneland’s synthetic surface, over a distance of 6 ½ furlongs, and she managed to cover the distance in 1 minute and 18.2 seconds on 10 April, 2011.
However, the daughter of Medaglia d’Oro , out of Instant Thought, Marketing Mix, has come a long way since her maiden race, and has gone on to compete in four races, posting her second win on 31 July, 2011.
It was also her first start on turf, and the filly did not disappoint under jockey P Husbands at Woodbine, over a distance of 1 ¼ miles.
The filly pulled out a winner in 2 minutes and 1.21 seconds, and that win at Woodbine will make her a serious contender to win the Grade 3 Pucker Up Stakes at Woodbine on 17 September, 2011.
The Chicago based Michael Stidham trained 3-year-old filly, Summer Savory, is back at her home base and she will look to contest with the protagonist, but she has failed to perform in her last race, the Grade 3 Ontario Colleen.
The filly rolled in 6th on turf, over a distance of 1 mile, at Woodbine racecourse on 27 August, 2011, but she has been successful over such distance, and she is capable of spurring up a surprise or two.
Other main contenders to challenge the favourtie are Trac N Jam, Angelica Zapata, Santina Dond and Seans Silverdancer.
