The Queen's Speech. Did you notice she?

seems to be slurring her words a little? Is this just the years catching up, or is she like her sister?

Let's hope when she shuffles off this mortal coil, we say goodbye to this outdated job, which has no role in the 21st century. It's time we were a republic.

  4. She's probably throwing off TIAs. Who will croak it first....her or Phill The Greek?

  5. What would abolishing the monarchy really acheive?

Here are just some of the benefits I feel having a monarch gives us, the head of state is impartial and does not have some political axe to grind, in a national crisis such as what is happening in Belgium right now having a monarch is proving very important to the nations stability. Belgium has had no government now for 150 days and King Albert alone is the only public figure in that country trying to bring about unity.

The monarch is able to give support to  avast range of charites and organisations no matter what the political climate in the country is at the moment.

And also a sense of continuity lacking in rebublican natoins.

All you have to do is look at each of the countries which have lost their monarchs as heads of state. Germany, the Kaiser was deposed paving the way for the dictatorship of Adolf Hitler, in Russia Stalin seized control, in Spain Franco, in Italy, Mussolini, in France Robspierre, in China Chairman Moa and in Mexico Panch Villa. I am sure that I need not go into detail of what life was like in these countries and the countries around them when these men were in power, most of these countries are not yet recovered from the effects these times had on their countries.Britain has never had such problems in centuries, so I would think twice before storming the Palace and putting to an end a 1000 years of our nations history.

Some rebublicans will not desist to harp on about the cost of the moarchy. The only money which goes to the Monarchy from tax payers are those which cover the running of the occupied Royal palaces, including Buckingham Palace, Holyrood Palace, Windsor Castle, St. Jame's Palace and Kensington palace, all of these buildings would be maintained from tax payers money if Britain was a republic so that argument is instantly crushed because these buldings will always be maintained by the state. The Queen of course pays for the upkeep of Balmoral Castle and Sandringham by herself because they are her private property and she uses money that she makes from he own estates to meet the costs. Then there are things like official travel around the country and on state visits, this would also take place in a republic so that is not a point that any rebublican would want to raise if they are wanting to an argument. To top it all of a deal was struck over a century ago whereby the government agreed that royal property should belong to the state so all income from that property goes to the taxpayers benefit, this property is called the Crown estate, in return for this the government of the day would pay for all the official activities of the monarchy, the government spends a total of around 35 million pounds a year on everything to do with the monarchy, The Crown Estate pays the government around 130 million pounds a year which eclipses the entire cost of the monarchy. So basically the benefit financially of having a monarch is that crown propert, which would not have existed to benefit the taxpayer if we were not a monarchy more than double pays for costs of having a monarch. I wonder if the same can be said for the French President as he sits in his PALACE in Paris.

So I say Long live the Queen, and the monarchy, for without it Britain's society would crumble.

  6. I have always been a Republican, But am not so sure about it now. Would Gordon bring back his old mate Tony as unelected President of Britain, Just remember Brussels is full of unelected tw4ts appointed by the last prime minister. Neil Kinnock, Peter Mandelson, Nigel Lawson and lot's more.

  7. FFS She's in her 80s and she works full time, give the woman a break!

  8. A brash statement to make - would you care to explain why you think it is an outdated job? Why should we be a republic, what benefits would it offer?

  9. She'd overdone the Sherry mate.
