  1. yes the queen does have relatives on her mom's side or else her mom would not have parents

  2. I think because most of them are dead and those that aren't are not "royal" and so don't warrant the media attention. I'm pretty sure there's plenty of other controversial reasons too but they're secret!

  3. She does see them. They are based in Scotland. Her visits with them are probably considered private family time for her.

  4. Sure she does.  Their last name is Bowes-Lyon and most of them, if not all, live in Scotland.  She was born there in Glamis Castle.

  5. She keeps them in the Tower.

  6. The Queen is mostly seen with her immediate royal family members (husband, children and grandchildren), and her extended royal family members, which mainly includes relatives from her father's side of the family. The reason is her mother was actually a commoner, although she was married into the British royal family, her side of the family remained as commoners. They do not perform royal duties on behalf of the Queen, therefore, you will not seen them in the media as much as you would see her immediate and extended royal family members.

Note: The Queen may have visited her mother's side of the family in private, and of course this will not be a "publicize event."

  7. The Queen Mother's father was the 14th Earl of Strathmore, a member of the Scottish peerage.  His great-grandson is the current (18th) Earl of Strathmore and is the first cousin (once removed) of HM Queen Elizabeth II.  This side of the family are not Royalty and therefore do not take part in any state functions etc.
