The Queen owned Tactician will run for trainer Michael Bell in the Ebor Handicap at York
The most valuable handicap in Europe, the Ebor Handicap, will go underway on 20 August, 2011, with a massive purse of £210,000 and the winning earning £130,851 makes the race all the more exciting with so much money riding on it.
The race is run at York, and it is run over a distance of 1 mile and 6 furlongs approximately 2,816 meters. Trainer Michael Bell will send out the 4-year-old bay gelding, Tactician, as the trainer attempts to pull out a winner in the most prestigious handicap
in Europe.
Tactician, who is owned by the Queen, is coming off a splendid win in the John Smith’s Silver Cup Handicap at York on 9 July, 2011.
The 4-year-old broke his maiden back in 2010, failing in his two previous attempts at Doncaster and Newbury in 2009.
In the field of 7 horses, Tactician broke his maiden in the second attempt at Newbury on 17 April, 2010.
Under jockey Hayley Turner, the runner pulled hard early but soon started chasing the leaders, but under strong urging Tactician led the lot approaching the final furlong.
Tactician was hung right by Hayley Turner, and the pair got under pressure by a strong run from All Action, but maintained their command on the race till they broke free in the final 100 yards and won going away.
The distance was 1 mile and 3 furlongs good to firm, and Tactician defeated All Action by 1 length in the end.
The son of Motivator, out of Tempting Prospect by Shirley Heights, Tactician, since breaking his maiden he has finished on the money a few times but couldn’t manage to win a race until just recently.
He arrived at York in a massive field of 18 horses under jockey Eddie Ahern to run over a distance of 1 mile and 6 furlongs on a surface labeled good.
The pair kept on gamely to fend off opponents, especially Fox Hunt, who managed a duel with Tactician with a furlong to go.
Under strong urging Tactician left his adversary behind to hit the wire 1 ¼ lengths ahead of Fox Hunt.
