Ok so last week was my 31 week check up and when i was there the nurse checked some number and said she was worried that I had developed anemia. She freaked me out telling me I could lose alot of blood when I deliver if I don't step up the iron. So I asked her if I could just take an extra iron pill. And she said no that I just need to eat more red meat. But why wouldn't I be able to just take the iron. She scared the h**l out of me!

  1. i only just today recieved the same news! im getting a prescription tomorrow for iron supplements. I eat plenty of red meat so i don't know why i was low, you'll be fine tho xx

  2. If you take  too much iron especially the pills it can really mess with your insides. Every time i take them it always messes up my bowel movements and gives me really bad stomach pains. Maybe that is a reason why ???

  3. Most women get anemic at this point in pregnancy, and my midwife just told me that my RBC count was so low I'm not currently safe for home birth.  Here's the thing: I've been taking iron pills every day since my first trimester, plus I eat red meat all the time.  My midwife said that she has never had success getting her patients' RBC count back up with iron pills.  But she has had a lot of success with two suppliments you can get at any health food store- floradix and chlorophyll.  These help with iron absorption and synthesis of hemoglobin.  I've been taking this for a week now, and my energy level hit the roof.  I went from not being able to get off the couch to running around all day, cooking and cleaning, with too much energy to sit down.  Any how, I hope this helps, take care.

  4. She probably wanted to let you know it was serious.  If you were severely anemic they would have given you a shot.  The best sources of iron are from (believe it or not) chicken drumsticks!  Turkey drums are next.  Liver (YUCK!) is next.  Dark red steak is better than lighter cuts.  If you are eating veggies, greens are great, and should be steamed or lightly boiled to bring out the iron you need.  If you eat your iron in your food, it is easier on your body and you don't get constipated. Another thing... ask if you can take vitamin c.  It helps you store the iron faster.  Also, look into cast iron pans.  Food absorbs some iron from them!  GOOD LUCK!!!!!

  5. Thats just what you need to do. I am anemic and once a week I have to eat a filet.   Propper Diet and iron suppliments and u will be fine
