The RNC has decided to alter its plans in light of Gustav?

Do you feel that if they canceled it altogether and donated those millions to New Orleans in light of Gustav, that it would prompt more people to vote for McCain given that they would be giving Charity? That this would make such a huge impact that it would compel people from all sides to come together?

  1. Gustav could almost make me believe there IS a god who hates lying, gun-toting, homophobic hypocrites.

Republicans are NOT ABOUT TO do anything to help the poor, the isolated, the disenfranchised.  They are out to fatten up the corporate and big oil swine who swill at the public trough.

One would have to be totally insane to vote for a man who is, himself, a heartbeat away from death, but is willing to leave the Presidency of the United States in the hands of a woman who is EVEN LESS QUALIFED to be President than George Dumbya Bush.  Do fundamentalist and evangelical CHRISTIANS learn NOTHING from history???????  Do they really believe that women who were intelligent enough to support Hilary Clinton are going to vote for a woman as unqualified as the Alaska gun-toter who thinks polar bears are expendable because they might interfere with drilling in Alaska's wildlife preserves??????   Does McCain know THAT little about intelligent women???  I can't wait for the first vice-presidential debate to hear Joe Biden say:  "I know Hillary Clinton....and YOU are NO Hillary Clinton".  LOL

Can you see McCain giving up one of his SEVEN HOUSES to feed the poor????  Not bloody likely.  Not from an idiot who thinks "middle class' is anyone making under FIVE MILLION a year!

Boy, it didn't take Georgie Porgie long to bail out....just like he bailed out of Vietnam. He's not about to put his billion dollar as* in harm's way.

  2. Hm..

It would be impossible to cancel it altogether and donate those millions to NO..

Yes they could cancel the convention..

But the money has already been spent.. (People will still get paid..)

Though I do think they will raise quite a bit of money..

  3. Very good question Blue Foots.  I have been listening to the news all day today.  The RNC can't be canceled totally.  They must go through the nominating process in order to establish a Presidential and VP candidate for the November elections.  It is my understanding, much of the funds for the convention budgeted for festivities will be donated for hurricane disaster relief. Many additional phone lines have also been installed. I believe this is for a telethon.

Obama has also said once the needs are know, he will ask via e-mail for his supporters to donate money and needed supplies.

We may have our party differences, when tragedy strikes our nation. We are all Americans and pitch in to help.

If you pray, pray for the people in harm way. If you don't believe in prayer, sent positive thoughts their way.

  4. I think the only way for all people from all sides to come together as you say, is to understand the purpose for Gustav in the first place. All the arguing and debate that goes on here (YA), and in the political world, and everywhere in between, is never going to change until we, as you suggest, come to the same side.

But not the same side of religion or politics or anything else for that matter. The only thing that is going to allow us to find any peace in this world is to understand why there isn't any here now! What's the reason for all these natural disasters and fighting amongst people? How do we make sense of anything that from what we can see, makes no sense at all?

Here is great video regarding this issue. It gives an explanation of why we are experiencing what we are and how a person can actually influence and change the world to bring it to the condition in which it was meant to be. Best wishes!

  5. i saw on the news they may use part of the RNC as a funding raising telethon for Gustav...its a nice idea...

  6. Doing that would not negate the fact that I disagree with McCain and Palin on almost every issue.

  7. Yes. I always wish that instead of spending hundreds of millionsof dollars on PR firms and campaigns which never actually convey any useful information, only rhetoric and empty statements, a candidate would donate all their money to some organization like UNICEF or Oxfam and actually save lives.

The reason why they don't do this is that they would probably lose. American voters, sadly, probably aren't as affected by charity as you think. A couple superficial attack ads and false rumors are usually far more persuasive to voters than actually helping people is. Until the average voter is prepared to take the time to take a serious look behind the showy PR machies and has the maturity to care about real issues, candidates put themselves at a political disadvantage by scaling back the empty rhetoric.

    P.S. An interesting follow-up I just read: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080831/ap_o...

  8. this is god's way of showing her disapproval of the RNC!

  9. Obama should have given up his temple and really pathetic fireworks.  He knew Gustav was coming.

  10. No, period, they are not going to cancel the RNC. They are angry that they are forced to reschedule.

  11. who's gustav? ignatz pommerantz's neighbor?

  12. Nice idea. But it will never happen...

  13. They only altered it because they don't want people watching with a split screen. People will be more interested in the hurricane than the RNC.
