The Rain, The golfers and Singapore
The Barclays Singapore Open favored Adam Scott after he grabbed a 3 stroke victory over Anders Hansen and Rikard Karlberg on the 14th of November. The tournament, however, wasn’t all that sunny for the Australian or the rest
of the 204 players as rain had constantly fooled around with the Serapong and the Tanjong GC while different golfers were witnessed performing various activities during the delay.
Initially the first round halted for 4 hours due to rain and was then suspended due to darkness only to witness the last round to halt for more than 5 and a half hours, reason being the electric storm.
Where the rain hammered the golf courses, several players poured rather heavy tempers on the organizers too. First Phil Mickelson had to card a two stroke penalty from the Chief referee John Paramour since he had assumed the halted play to begin the
next day and left the golf course. The lefty however made back on time and hence avoided the disqualification in exchange for a 2 shot penalty.
Secondly, a rather tattered bad humor circulated the grounds when it was reported that the players would have to make it back to the golf course on Monday. According to latest reports, one European official was attacked with some heavy adjectives from
one of the senior players when the event resumed at eight thirty rather than the scheduled seven thirty in the morning.
While Phil Mickelson had been busy managing his logistic issues between the 5 hour play, Graeme McDowell thought about taking a nap in the locker rooms. The delay however failed to increase McDowell’s chances of taking over Adam Scott even after the
5 hour nap and the 5 holes game in R4.
The fourth round leader, Scott is now the back to back winner of the same event and is reported to spend his 5 hour break talking with Ian Poulter. Poulter finished tied at the sixth place with Jamie Donaldson both of whom stood with a minus 11 and
273 strokes. Other than the Scott who spent his time in the veranda, the Englishman had plans to retain the title he held last year.
After the break however, the Australian achieved his momentum soon enough and set up a 2 shot lead easily over Ian Poulter and a 4 stroke front over Graeme McDowell. Scott then achieved 3 birdies which made a 3 stroke front with Poulter carding a 17
under with 8 holes played. McDowell meanwhile, had played 9 holes and had recorded a 12 under.
