The Rangers Defeat the Yankees, 10-3, in Game 4 of the Playoffs
After their last shut out win over the New York Yankees, the Texas Rangers have done it again.
As of Game 4 of the playoffs, the Rangers are ahead of the Yankees, 3-1.
After losing their first game by one run, 6-5, the Rangers have made a comeback, winning the next three games, 7-2, 8-0, and 10-3.
Yesterday, the Rangers played in Game 4 of the playoff series, winning 10-3. The game was full of shutdown pitching and big home runs.
Many people expected a one-sided deal with the playoffs, which is true, but instead of the Yankees, that everyone predicted would be ahead, it’s the Rangers that are one win away from the World Series.
With Michael Jordan attending the game at Yankee Stadium in New York City, the Rangers gave a splendid performance.
The first inning started with Texas at bat with A.J. Burnett pitching for New York. Elvis Andrus and Josh Hamilton each got one hit and Michael Young struck out.
Tommy Hunter pitched for the Rangers with the Yankees getting no hits in the first.
The bottom of the second started with Alex Rodriguez, at bat for the Yankees, hitting a fly ball to center. Next up was Robinson Cano, who hit a 350 foot homerun to the right, putting the Yankees ahead, 1-0.
The Rangers came back in the third with David Murphy walking to first and then to second, after another wild pitch by Burnett. Benjie Molina was then hit by a pitch, allowing him to walk. With Murphy on third, Andrus hit a grounder to first, allowing Murphy
to run home and Molina to advance to third. Young then hit a single to third, allowing Molina to also score.
In the bottom of the third, the Yankees evened the score with Curtis Granderson hitting a grounder, which allowed Derek Jeter to score, after he had been safe at third. The score was now 2-2.
The next run was in the bottom of the fourth, after Derek Holland replaced Hunter. On Holland’s next pitch, Brett Gardner got a hit, which allowed Rodriguez to score, putting the Yankees ahead, 3-2.
Sadly for the Yankees, they would stop here and the Rangers would rocket ahead.
In the top of the sixth, Molina made one of the biggest homers in the game, for three runs, at 376 feet. Nelson Cruz and Murphy both scored alongside Molina, putting the Rangers ahead again, 5-3.
Again in the top of the seventh, Hamilton hit a 376 foot home run, followed by Cruz and Vladimir Guerrero scoring after a single by Ian Kinsler. Texas was now ahead by four points, at 7-3.
In the seventh, the Rangers advanced even further, with Hamilton hitting another home run for 409 feet. Cruz followed not long after, hitting an even further 421 feet, and allowing Julio Borbon to also score, making the score 10-3 at the end of the game.
By the end of the seventh, Yankees’ fans were storming out of Yankees Stadium, with the Rangers smiling confidently.
"They all talk about home-field advantage," said Holland, who pitched for 3 ⅔ innings with only one hit and no runs. "We want to be able to show that there's no such thing."
The next game between the Rangers and Yankees will be on Wednesday October 20, 2010 at Yankee Stadium, set to start at 4:07 PM ET.
