The Rangers deny contacting Andy Pettitte
The New York Daily News recently came out to report a news piece on Andy Pettitte that said, he was contacted by the Texas Rangers’ President, Nolan Ryan. However those reports have now been rubbished by the club. The New York Yankees and the Rangers are
looking to battle over free agent, Cliff Lee in the coming days. Pettitte, on the other hand, will be a player who will be majorly missed over the coming campaign if he decides to retire soon. The free agent is spending time with his family back in Texas and
it seems he will come out with a choice soon.
About a month ago, Pettitte played with the idea to come back Major League Baseball when he said, "The kids are getting to that age where I want to be home. But I also know how important what I do is. I'm a man and this is my job. This is all I've ever known
as an adult. Like I said last year, I want to make sure I fully exhaust myself of this and run it out."
The top star played for the New York Yankees for a long time and during the recent tenure, he featured against Lee and the Rangers in the American League Championship. The player is expected to make his decision soon. However the Yankees have made the first
move by not offering the 38 year old pitcher, arbitration for 2011. The player took him $11.5 million in 2010 and while his decision may seem to resonate with the Yanks, there are advantages linked with playing in Texas.
Andy made a statement last month and it seems to provide an opportunity to the Rangers. He said, "It's a long flight down to Houston, Texas from New York. The off-days and stuff like that, it's tough to go back and forth and try to see (the family) like
I want to see them. I'm just going to go home and see if I feel like I can make another run at this thing."
It’s clear that Pettitte reckons the time he will lose with his family if he decides to go back to baseball with the Yankees. However if he stayed in Dallas for the home games as a Rangers player, the purpose on both ends could be filled. The only question
to the move would be: How many years do the Rangers want Andy to deliver?
