  1. you sure seem to love those 90's heavyweights... (me too).  i would have to give it to Mercer, his fight with Lewis was a war that could have went either way. many may disagree, but i think the Douglas-Tyson bout was more bad Tyson than good Buster..  Mercer vs Moorer would have been interesting, too bad they never fought.

  2. Say what you say, but whoever would have faced Buster Douglas on that fateful night in Japan would have got knocked out.  Unless Richard Steele was the referee, in that case Buster would've been counted out.

  3. i think that mercer would have taken it......if he had caught douglas like tyson did in that 8th round, he'd have finished the job.

  4. Buster Douglas by KO in round 11.  No one could have beaten Douglas that night.

  5. no

  6. for me this is an easy one, its got to be douglas, the man was just invincible that night, nothing would of stopped him that night, he showed if a boxer is in the right frame of mind he can do anything, i mean mercer put on great performances against lewis and holyfield but he still lost the fights, and to be fair lewis wasnt primed yet, he matured with age, whereas tyson was in his prime when douglas gave him a lesson

  7. Ray Mercer without a doubt.

Buster was on the canvas a very long time that night.

Mercer marked up two terrific fighters pretty good, and Douglas was lucky to survive a knock down, and eventually slayed the beast.

  8. the media.

  9. Mercer. Buster had a 1 fight wonder.

  10. Douglas didn't beat Tyson because of his skills, Douglas beat Tyson because Tyson had already set himself open for failure, not only did he not train at all for the fight, but he went into the ring with incopmetent trainers and corner men who like him, took it for granted that he would win, also if you watch any Tyson fight before that and compare it with his performance that night you would see two very different fighters, it was pretty obvious to everyone who watched that fight (without a bias against Tyson) and Buster proved to be a bum afterwards, Tyson even managed to knock him down without fighting at his best....Mercer on the other hand was always a strong contender and one of the best fighters in the division at the time, Buster Douglas would have lost to this guy on any given night, Mercer was ten times better than Douglas would ever hope to be, again if you don't believe me go and watch their fights again, besides the night that he beat a lazy and untrained Tyson what else did Douglas achieve?.....At least Mercer actually managed to win some form of the title and go on to be a strong contender for a while.

  11. Actually Doll, Mercer was game, but both Holyfield and Lewis handled Ray without much fanfare.  Buster Douglas on the other hand pulled off the biggest upset in boxing since Ali beat either Foreman or Liston.  That said, Ray Mercer most likely would have take Buster Douglas if they fought, I know people tend to believe Mike Tyson was a quality heavyweight, and I grant Mike could hit reasonably hard, but as heavyweight champions go, I simply do not hold Mike Tyson in very high regard.

I give the edge to Ray Mercer in this one, Buster Douglas never really showed me he could beat a A level heavyweight in his career, at least Ray KOed Morrison in memorable fashion.  I consider Mercer's victory or Morrison at least as thrilling as Busters KO of Iron Mike.  Buster did the boxing world a justice by exposing Mike Tyson, but lacked the chin Mercer brought into the ring.

Ray Mercer in a hard fought split decision.
