The Rays...sure they're good. But are their fans good enough?

Florida apparently doesn't care about professional baseball, let alone winning baseball. I was watching the A's in Tampa Bay last week and the stadium was only half full. Any thoughts? Tampa fans should chime in, because I'm sort of dumbfounded...

  1. their fans probably switch to be a marlins fan

  2. Not true. Maybe Miami is like that but it's a different situation in the Tampa area. There is St. Petersburg and Clearwater who don't care. I guarantee you if the team was closer to the Tampa side there would be more support. I will say it time and again, do you hear these support problems with the 'Ning and Bucs? The only baseball team that plays in Tampa are the stinkin' Tampa Yankees. Even my grandfather and I were discussing that if the stadium proposal is accepted that would be a great thing for fans in Tampa because it would be built on the spring training lot which is a more ideal location to converge on the stadium, unlike the current Tropicana location.

  3. I've been following the Tampa Bay franchise from California since they were formed and its obvious that there's only about 10,000 true fans and the rest are nothing but band-wagon jumpers, sort of like fans of the Florida Marlins.

  4. Florida teams have some of the worst stadiums in MLB, the Marlins and the Rays fans really don't want to come to the ball park, they rather watch it on TV which is why both Florida teams have pretty good TV ratings.

  5. as a tampa native:we love baseball! its like hockey in canada.the a's suck, so why would fans come to see the a's get the **** kicked out of them.we have fan support, just like our new stadium needs!and if was half full, why were you there.

and look at our home attendance records!

  6. Well they really don't have many real fans. A lot of people gave up on them when they finished last just about every year for 9 years.  Even if they make it to the post season, the stadium will probably never fill more than 2/3 because people simply don't care about baseball anymore.

  7. Tampa loves baseball, but only if the Red Sox or Yankees are playing.
