The Revamped Face Of Silverstone Circuit
At the auto race world, things shape and reshape faster than one could think of. Every second day there is technological advancement to keep the balance of power battle going on among the constructors and drivers.
With the introduction of the hi-tech chassis, the unbeatable engines and the ever improving aerodynamic systems, there is a lot more that needs to keep improving alongside to keep up the balance. For example it is very important that the race track is kept redesigning to cope up with the autos as well as the driving expertise. The track needs to give drivers the opportunity to have a good challenging race for the spectators at the same time proving safety to them as well.
In the past couple of years, Formula One has welcomed a number of newly built tracks under its umbrella. These new tracks on one hand provide excitement and thrill to the race lovers while on the other hand they serve as a challenge for the older tracks as well. Such is the case faced by Silverstone track in the past few years.
The last few years had been very critical as well as crucial for the fate of the Silverstone track. It was announced in the year 2009 that the next Formula One calendar would not be adding British Grand Prix and in any case if it is added it would be staged at Donington Park instead of its long time host Silverstone Circuit. The basic reason behind it was the unmatched pace of the Silverstone circuit as compared to the developments taking place in the circuits all around the globe.
However, finally the circuit is ready to host the race next week and also a contract had been signed for the next seventeen years with Formula One. Some major changes have been made at the track to satisfy the demands of the F1 management as well as to provide safety to the drivers along with excitement to the race fans.
However, everybody does not seem to be equally happy with the changes made as many have commented that much better was being expected at the circuit. The formal re-opening of the circuit took place a couple of months ago but the final feedback could be best given after next week’s British Grand Prix.
Well what is visible does not seem to excite a lot of race lovers in general and the fans of Formula One in particular. A new long straight road have been added measuring seven hundred and sixty meters, featuring some more slower bends, for which some of the fans think would allow a little more of overtaking.
The old Renault drive, Romain Grosjean had not been much impressed by what he sees telling that the best part of the track was its Bridge that had now been removed as well as the complex which was again one of its nicest areas. He further added that what had been gained is not much convincing either. He also explained that the high speed that the Formula One cars have it would not offer many opportunities for overtaking now.
On the other hand some contrasting opinions were also received as Oliver Gaven, the former F1 safety car driver said that he thinks the circuit now offers an even better flow and he was really happy for that. He further told that a nice combination of corners and straight roads is made now that would make driving more exciting.
Altogether there are now a couple of corners that are almost flat and another couple of corners that could be really challenging. However the basic style of Silverstone has not ended completely, which, for some is a complete delight and for others it is no use of revamping at all.
Well, it is only one more week to go and action would unfold at the circuit thus the drivers, the analysts as well as the fans would be in a better position to tell if the amendments are rightly done or some more improvements are required.
