The Rice Owls return to action at the weekend – Volleyball news
The women’s volleyball team of Rice University in Houston, Texas is scheduled to continue its spring training session until the start of summer camps in May.
The Rice Owls are currently up for the Second Annual F.A.S.T. Complex Collegiate Invitational, which is going to be held at the weekend. The friendly tournament will take place at the Reliant Centre.
The Rice Owls will be joined teams from Baylor, Oklahoma, Lamar, Houston, Southern Methodist University, Texas Christian University, Louisiana-Lafayette, Texas A&M, Sam Houston State, and University of Texas at San Antonio.
The Rice ladies will compete in four matches. The first fixture will bring the Owls in contest with Texas at 0830 in the morning. Later on, the team will challenge the Louisiana-Lafayette in the next match. Moreover, they will also play North Texas and Shockers
of Wichita State.
The Owls kicked off the spring training earlier this month and played a few friendly matches with different teams. Last week, they hosted Houston Baptist at the university campus and two in-state rivals came into a head-to-head fight. The admission was free
and lot of spectators witnessed the volleyball action.
Now the Owls are taking their training to the next phase by playing at FAST Complex Collegiate Centre. The team head coach Genny Volpe is hopeful that her players will do well in Saturday’s matches.
After the completion of FAST Invitational, the team will participate in more exhibition matches. The Rice University is set to host an all-day volleyball tournament in April, which will be attended by Houston, HBU, Stephen F. Austin University, Lamar, and
Sam Houston. The tourney will take centre stage on Saturday, April 14.
Before heading into the regular season, Owls aim to get fully prepared. That is why they are undergoing tough training and practice. The team is supposed to attend the summer training camps in June, which will serve as the final phase of training in the
season.
The Rice Owls finished the previous season with an overall record of 18-13. This time around, they will try to improve their winning record. The coach and team members are putting a lot of efforts to overcome their flaws before the start of season.
