Is it true that if you drive a red car you are more likely to be in a accident and why do you think people make this comment

I have an 03 chevy avalanche and it is big and red and before i bought it i called my insurence and asked these questions because i  was told the same thing but ive had it for months and it fine  no tickes or accidents no fine .....I LOVE MY TRUCK

The color of the car does not cause a greater chance of being in an accident, but here are some other reasons your car will end up in the junk yard:

Dialing your cell phone

Text messaging

Emailing

Fumbling with your iPod

Holding hot coffee between your legs

Shaving

Putting on makeup

Taking too much cough syrup before leaving for work

I'm sure a few out there can extend the list.

All of the answers that I have read so far have some truth to them, but some of the studies that I have read deal with personalities. Based on studies, people purchase (or are drawn to) certain colors based on their personalities. generally speaking, people who purchase red cars tend to have a more aggressive or fun/adventurous personality. Here is a quote from an article I read here on yahoo some months ago "Red cars denote those who are full of zest, energy and drive and who think, move and talk quickly".

They may therefore tend to take more chances, be less concerned with "following rules". Once again this is only speaking in general, but may have something to do with (combined with the fact that red is a more noticeable color) the reason red cars get more tickets. I agree that there does not seem to be any information about red cars being involved in more accidents, just more tickets.

Arrest me red is because stupid people prefer red. A person might like red and be a little old lady but more likely to be an aggressive driver so more likely to speed and to get into accidents. If you were aggressive you probably wouldn't buy the baby blue car instead of the bright red one.

complete rubbish. its purely down to driver ability and awareness. dont belive in fate and alike YOU AND YOU ALONE ARE IN CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE!! p.s yellow is deemed a safe colour as its more visible. a proven fact.

The red car appeals to a person who likes to drive fast.  Perhaps more recklessly.  Not everyone of course, but most.
