  1. Lyle would have a punchers chance...in that he would really need get lucky. Smokin' Joe was (always) too polished and battle ready for Lyle.

Frazier by easy TKO 4-8 rounds.

  2. I have to go with Frazier on this one. I think he is an "all time great" I think the first Ali fight, (not to mention the 3rd) took a lot out of Joe. Joe was relentless with his punches and his head movements.

Lyle got started in the fight game late, he wasn't as polished. He fought a great fight against Foreman, but Foreman was coming off being shocked by Ali and he hadn't fought in a year.

If you look at common opponents.

Joe beat Ali once, TKo'd Quarry 2times and Tko'd Ellis

Lyle got Ko'd by Ali, lost a dec to Quarry and won a dec to Ellis.

  3. You know Lyle had decent power but a questionable chin, no stamina, and overrated boxing skills(If he had any!). Smoking Joe had stamina, power, chin, and better boxing skills, and fought better opposition, so he has better intelliegence coming into this fight. Frazier would lose the early rounds, but dismantle Lyle in mid rounds. Frazier by TKO in 7.

  4. Ron Lyle would have been thoroughly battered by Smoking Joe Frazier.  This fight would have been stopped within 7 rounds.

  5. Ron Lyle had a memorable war with George Foreman; they put each other down several times each before Lyle was eventually stopped. Frazier was susceptible to hard punchers (this was only ever exposed by George Foreman (twice) but you will notice that Frazier never fought Ron Lyle or Earnie Shavers, both renowned punchers of the '70's) so it's quite possible Lyle would have KO'd Frazier like George Foreman did. My opinion is that both Lyle and Shavers would have stopped Frazier.

  6. Thumbs up to Toughguy Frazier would have destroyed him within 7 rds

  7. The Joe Frazier of TODAY could beat ANY version of Ron Lyle.  Sure, Lyle hit hard. . . .but unlike Foreman, he definitely wouldn't have had Joe's number.  Do you think Lyle could have knocked down and battered Muhammad Ali like Frazier did?  Well, the proof is in the pudding. . .since Lyle lost pitifully to Ali in their fight.

    FRAZIER TKO7

  8. No question, Joe's gonna knock Ron Lyle out inside 4 rounds.  Lyle is nothing but a big puncher with crude skills.  He's too slow and one-dimensional that he'd be easy prey to Joe Frazier.
