The Royal Ascot dress code, anxiety without cause?
It is as if the British Horse Racing Authority needs to seek undue attention for one issue or the other, it really was not completely through the new whip rules that now it is in for governing the fashion statements and styles at the Royal Ascot.
Somehow dressing appropriately at the Royal Ascot seems to be a much graver issue than the actual horse racing, at least that is how it sounds when the concerns are restricted to "modest length, just above the knee or longer" and "headpiece with a base of
10cm or more in diameter", but then how can its significance be ignored when the Queen herself dresses up for the event, after all its her very own nation.
There are strict instructions on not putting on miniskirts and bare mid rifts along with strictly avoiding anything that is strapless or has a sheer-strap and halter-neck dresses are to be stayed away from too. The Royal Ascot should think about some extra
provisions at the gate during the season as once the season starts, there will be long rows there for sure.
Well, the British Horse Racing Authority views this as its indispensable effort to keep the culture and traditions of the Britain intact in the wake of horse racing.
The anxiety about the women getting dressed properly is much more of a priority than the men. However, they are not being left out of course, everything for them has been made black and white with no confusing grays to fuss over anymore. They have even been
guided through the matching so there is really no home work for them to be done as far as dressing is concerned. They just need to make sure that there is something black to complement the suits that they are planning to don along with black ties and black
shoes.
Ascot's chief executive Charles Barnett, who has overseen the fleshpot that is ladies Friday at Aintree's Grand National meeting in the past, said: "We have worked extensively with experts in the world of fashion to define better what formal dress means,
and assisting everyone in understanding what is expected and, we believe, cherished about the dress code at Royal Ascot”.
Who said that British horse racing was not flourishing and broadening its horizons? The Royal Ascot soon can be expected to be sponsored by the leading fashion giants there, a one of its kind collaboration between the British horse racing and the fashion
houses.
Trying to keep up with the modesty and decency in such an important event in the racing calendar is truly commendable but then again it should be borne in mind that for audience and crowd that goes up to and can exceed 77,000, the dressing codes should not
be so restricting and suffocating.
After all it is because of these people that the Royal Ascot gets to generate such huge profits each year and making it a hassle for them instead of a means of entertainment, is equivalent to losing the actual well wishers of the horse racing industry. No
one wants to drive them away or wear them off due to being stupidly unreasonable. Flexibility and relaxation within the parameters is something that the British Horse Racing Authority can easily look into and consider being more accommodating and adaptable.
If those who yearn for racing and have been brought up by the passion for it are not able to enjoy the most important event, then the Royal Ascot has only brought itself down to being just another fashion parade which can start considering ramps instead
of tracks.
