  1. There are only two Queens that had ruled as "Queen of the United Kingdom. Queen Elizabeth II and her great-great grandmother Queen Victoria. Queen Victoria was the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and the first Empress of India.

Before Queen Victoria, there were five other Queens who ruled only as "Queen of England, Scotland and Ireland. There were also an "Empress" during the medieval times that ruled over England.

Empress Matilda, Countess of Anjou and Lady of the English February (1102 – 10 September 1167) was the daughter and dispossessed heir of Henry I of England. Matilda was the first female ruler of the Kingdom of England.

The four Queens that ruled England were:

    - Jane of England, Lady Jane Grey Queen regnant of the Kingdom of England for nine days (1537 — 12 February 1554)

    - Mary I of England and Ireland (18 February 1516 – 17 November 1558)

    - Elizabeth I of England and Ireland 7 (September 1533 – 24 March 1603)

    - Mary II of England, Ireland and Scotland (30 April 1662 – 28 December 1694)

    - Anne of Great Britain, Queen of England, Scotland and Ireland (6 February 1665 – 1 August 1714)

  2. united kingdom .... Not bits and pieces of Britain ?

ok .. well I will have to answer One .. Queen Victoria,

as It wasn't the United Kingdom TILL after the reigns of Mary , Elizabeth the 1st,  Mary Queen of Scots.. and Lady Jane Grey .. .

BUT do you mean Queens as in the MAIN ruler without a king ?

( because if you just mean the entire number of Queens .. I don't know without checking)

( I think THIS is correct ??? BUT will happily stand corrected )

    (ooh I hate using Wikipedia BUT ...   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_... )

THAT IS ONE before her,  Queen Victoria , (not ONE queen counting Queen ELizabether.. that would be TWO )

  3. Jane Grey,Mary I,Elizabeth I, Mary II(co-regent with her husband William III from 1689-1694), Anne and Victoria were Queens Regent before Elizabeth II. But only Victoria and Elizabeth II were and are heads of the United Kingdom. The rest were considered "English" queens.

Check out the history threads at http://www.royal.gov/uk

  4. She's the Second female Head of State of the United Kingdom  (The first being Victoria).

There have been other Queens though, Queen Anne was Queen of the Kingdom of Great Britain. Mary II (who ruled jointly with her Husband William III) was Queen of England, Scotland and Ireland.

Mary I and Elizabeth I were monarchs only of England and Mary, Queen of Scots was only monarch of Scotland.
