The Royal Wedding’s secret cricket match - Part 1
With the royal wedding now concluded and Prince William and Kate Middleton now officially pronounced husband and wife in what was a truly grand and festive wedding, there are reports that not everything had gone according to plan.
Rumours have emerged that a cricket match had been scheduled with members of the royal family taking on a select few of the modern game’s best players, yet none could confirm the reports. However, certain guests who were fortunate enough to attend the event,
whose names will not be disclosed to safeguard their privacy, came forward and shared everything there was to know about the match.
“It was played in the royal garden,” one of the guests narrated, “they have ropes put around for the boundary and had flood lights put up.” This statement suggested that the match had been held after the royal reception and dinner.
Another guest who had been in attendance explained, “Prince William was the captain of his team, and Prince http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Paul-Harrison-c2165 was the wicket keeper. The rest of the team was made up of Prince William’s close friends and relatives.”
Further reports suggested that an all-star roster of international cricket players made up the opposition with Pakistan’s talismanic captain, Shahid Afridi, World Cup winner, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558 (who had flown
in direct from the Indian Premier League along with Dhoni just for the match) and a host of other players.
“It was a 15-overs a side match and was fairly exciting,” said a guest describing the action, before conceding, “although I have to say it was more down to the fact that the Prince Williams’ team benefitted from some ‘relaxed’ play by the superstars.”
Apparently, the side with all the professionals was playing more for entertainment as captain, Daniel Vettori, who won the toss, elected to bowl first on what was an out and out batting track. Prince William apparently scored 78 runs from just 24 deliveries.
“The Prince was fantastic,” another guest commented, “he was hitting almost every ball to the boundary, though I have to admit they did bring the ropes a fair bit closer to the pitch whenever it was his turn to bat.”
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Z-Khan-c98379, who had been one of the bowler’s of the tournament, went for four sixes in one over, as Prince Harry benefitted from some poor bowling. The source added, “There was a fair bit of banter going on as well, though it was mostly going one way.”
The banter was supposedly the competitive talk that goes on between batsman and bowler and is widely accepted as a part of the game. It was reported that on one occasion, Prince William told http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DL-Vettori-c1384, after an over that cost the bowling side 20 runs,
that it was performances like that which were the reason http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 never made it to the final after reaching the semi-final of the World Cup for a record five times. To which Vettori replied, “Six times not five!”
Seeing that his captain had shot himself in the foot, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 reportedly interjected, “Better to lose in the semi finals than having the shame of inventing the game and having won a single world cup.”
