The Russian League = The End of the Salary Cap?

I mean, we already lost Jagr :'( and Radulov to the Russian league because of the fat contracts the Russians can throw at them. I think that this Russian league will mean the end of the short lived NHL salary cap. for the NHL to stay as the lead hockey league in the world, they would need all the money they can get to keep the talent on the continent. thoughts?

  1. I don't think so.  Other than Radulov, what player do you think could have made a significant impact on any current NHL team?  None worth paying for in my opinion.  The Russians have the power to offer players money, but not the power to offer them a chance at playing among the world's best.  No matter how hard they try, Russian leagues will never be much more than a retirement home for old NHL veterans, and a farm team for future NHL prospects.

Yes Ryan, somehow that b*****d Russki is leaving the country.  I don't know how because I thought the NHL stepped in originally, but I do know that he's going back to play for the KHL in the old country.

Edit - what Russian Super League sympathizer gave me a thumbs down?

  2. Ya right!! Every Canadian kid wants to grow up to win the "Putin Cup"!!

  3. OH NO!!!! The NHL lost a 39 year old past his prime player and...Alexander....Radulov?  How will it ever recover from this drastic blow?!?!?!?!?

  4. i thought Radulov wasnt being allowed to leave, because hes still under contract? are they letting him leave?

  5. Considering most of the players they have signed are either 1 foot from retirement (Jagr)or cast out of the NHL (Simon)

type of players it wont happen the money may be great but how many players would want to live there for years just to collect a fat check with no possibility of wining the most coveted trophy inn all of professional sports

  6. I don't think so.  Maybe some players who will get old and choose a diff career path with their last few years left (Jagr) will go across seas for more money.  Players choose the NHL because that is the big show of hockey.  Malkin proved that by turning down a fat paycheck to stay in the NHL.  The salary cap is one of the best things for this sport, and I hope it does stay.

  7. It's strictly business...where there's money there's people striving to get a piece of it.

I think Jagr got lucky since he is nearing the end of his career..
