Vasili Berezutski has urged CSKA Moscow to build on their latest Russian Premier League win against Anzhi Makachakala and has denied Leonid Slutsky’s possible resignation
Russian national team and CSKA Moscow defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vasili-Berezutski-c35922, has expressed his dissatisfaction over his national team’s disappointing Euro 2012 campaign, revealing that they were unlucky not to progress from the European
tournament.
There is little arguing to the statement that Russia were amongst the favorites to win the European tournament held in Poland and Ukraine.
Though they had a terrific start to the European campaign after defeating Czech Republic 4-1 in the opening game, they suffered a 1-0 defeat against Greece before claiming a 1-1 draw against Poland.
A win in the last group stage game could have confirmed Russia’s place in the quarter-finals. However, the Euro 2008 semi-finalist failed to meet fans expectations as they crashed out of the tournament earlier than expected.
Berezutski revealed that they have been a little unlucky in Europe as they conceded a shocking but painful defeat against the Greeks.
“The team played well but there are days when we were simply out of luck. We failed to score winning goals despite displaying great football. However, I do not understand why people are screaming about our complete failure.”
“People are blaming us for not winning the tournament, saying that we have not put enough strength on the field. Let me tell you that the Greece is not weak team to win it without a problem. To all those who have poured mud on
the team, I can advise them to see what happened to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 in Olympics.” The former Torpedo-ZIL player was quoted as saying.
Commenting on CSKA’s Russian Premier League campaign, Berezutsky has expressed his delight on their latest win against Anzhi Makhachkala last week. The UEFA Cup winner has urged his team-mates to stretch their winning run in the
league.
News in Russia suggested that Leonid Slutsky, the Koni manager, is likely to leave the managerial position after his side’s disappointing start to the league campaign. However, Berezutsky has denied these reports, saying that he
does not know anything about it.
