The SWATCH FIVB World Tour Calendar 2010: Overview of the men’s beach volleyball activity- Episode 2
The SWATCH FIVB World Tour covered five flights up till June and teams visited Brazil, China, Italy, Poland and Russia.
The Patria Direct Open, Czech Republic (15-20 June, 2010)
The 6th leg of the SWATCH FIVB Tour addressed teams to Czech Republic. The Patria Direct Open Tournament happened in the mid-June. In the single gender competition, top-seeded Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers earned their fourth title at Patira Direct Open. The U.S. built a momentum in the game and appeared as a better team of beach volleyball world. They defeated their first-line rivals, Brazilian Allison Cerutti and Emanuel Rego in the final competition. Oddly enough, the Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann of Germany repeated the same performance and captured the third place for consecutive third time.
Conoco Phillips Grand Slam Stavanger, Norway (29th June – 4th July)
Norway hosted the third Grand Slam Beach Volleyball Tournament at the end of June. The Conoco Phillips Grand Slam helped the host country make their way to the “final four” matches. Tarjei Skarlund and Martin Spinnangr of Norway took advantage of the home-courts and emotional support of local fans enabled them to play the gold medal match. The final battle of the ConocoPhillips Grand Slam saw Spanish David Klemperer and Eric Koreng as the competitor of host team. Unluckily Norwegian players couldn’t produce match-winning shots and lost the final match to Spain. Klemperer and Koreng got their hands on gold-medal while Tarjei and Spinnangr finished second-place in the home-series. Dalhausser and Rogers remained the top-three teams as they finished in the third-place.
1 to 1 Energy Grand Slam Tournament, Switzerland (6-11 July)
David Klemperer and Eric Koreng captured the last Grand Slam title in Norway but their rule was short lived. The American Dalhausser and Rogers made a great come-back in the 1 to 1 Energy Grand Slam Tournament and defeated Spanish Klemperer/Koreng in the finals. They snatched the title from Spaniards and added one more title in their collection. The Brazilian Marcio Araujo and Ricardo Santos appeared on the scene as bronze medallist team.
World Series 13, France (20-25 July, 2010)
In the succession of the game, France became the host of another exciting beach volleyball event. The World Series 13 provided another chance for Chinese players to lead the game. Penggen Wu and Linyin Xu proved their endeavour and grabbed another title. On the opposite side, they had Latvian Martins Palvins and Janis Smedins, who made it to the finals of SWATCH FIVB event for the first time 2010 season. Although the China’s team crashed their dream to touch the gold medal but still the Latvian players struggled hard and managed to attain the silver medal. The Polish Gzegorz Filjek and Martiusz Prudel followed the victorious teams and captured third slot.
A-1 Grand Slam tournament, Austria (27th July- 1st August)
The next event was organized in the beautiful city of Klagenfurt, Austria. The A-1 Grand Slam Tournament featured double gender competitions on different dates. The top-seeded Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers of United States had become a major threat for other teams as they captured the maximum number of titles and they targeted the gold-medal at A-1 Grand Slam tournament. The final victory grace Dalhausser/Rogers as they were able to dismiss their compatriots Matthew Fuerbringer and Nicolas Lucena in the final match. Dalhausser/Rogers won their sixth title during the 2010 season of SWATCH FIVB Beach Volleyball Tour.
Mazury Orlen Grand Slam, Poland (3-8 August 2010)
The 11th men’s event on SWATCH FIVB World Tour Calendar was staged in Polish city Stare Jablonki. Dalhasser/Rogers made their mark again and achieved gold medal victory by defeating Brink and Reckermann of Spain. Marcio Araujo and Ricardo of Brazil picked up bronze medal victory.
