The Sacramento Kings down the Phoenix Suns in a 116 - 113 win - NBA
The Sacramento Kings put in a strong fourth-quarter to fight-back and register a 116 -113 victory against the Phoenix Suns here in Sacramento on Tuesday. The Kings outscored the Suns 31 -20 in the final quarter to finish out the game on a high-note.
Sacramento had six players in double-figures, led my Marcus Thornton with 24 points and 11 boards. Beno Udrih added 19 and DeMarcus Cousins chipped in with 17 points and eight assists to round out the contributions from the starters.
The Sacramento bench outscored their Phoenix counterparts 50 – 26. Jason Thompson put up 14 points and 10 rebounds on the scoreboard, and Tyreke Evans had a near triple double with 11 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. While Donte Green racked-up 18
points off the bench on 7-of-11 shooting.
Grant Hill and Steve Nash set the tone early in the quarter for the Suns, with Hill pouring in 9 points and Nash dishing out 6 assists. Donte Green stepped up from the Kings bench to score 12 points in the period and balance out the effort from Hill. The
first quarter was close as the Suns held a 34 -30 lead heading into the second.
Sacramento committed 17 turnovers in the game to allow Phoenix to outscore them 33 – 19 in fast break points. Both teams shot over 50 percent, but the Kings held a slight edge as they bettered Phoenix to shoot 53.3 percent from the floor.
Vince Carter’s jumper at the 8:41 mark in the second put the Suns up 42 – 34 before the Kings countered with an unanswered 12 point run to turn the tables and take the lead. But Phoenix held on to start the second half with a 61 – 59 advantage.
Sacramento dominated the glass and won the rebounding battle with a 50 – 39 disparity.
Phoenix heated up in the third to fire-off a 9 – 0 run and go up 78 -67. Jared Dudley was the star for the Suns as he put up 13 points in the period to lead the charge, Frye also added eight points in the quarter.
Phoenix led 93 – 85 heading into the final period.
The Kings outscored its opposition 31 – 20 in the fourth period to wipe away the Suns advantage and snatch the win at home.
All five starters scored in double figures for the Suns, with Jared Dudley and Channing Frye putting in 21 points apiece. Steve Nash added 13 points and dished out 14 assists, and Marcin Gortat contributed 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Suns.
Grant Hill shot 7 – 11 from the floor to add 15 points in the losing effort.
