The San Diego Padres snatch an exhilarating 6-5 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates in a close match: MLB
The National League’s San Diego Padres struck back in the three-game series, overpowering league rivals, Pittsburgh Pirates, in an electrifying 6-5 victory at the Petco Park on Tuesday night, May 3rd.
The Pirates’ slugger, Neil Walker, hammered an impressive opening hit to deep centre that generated runs-batted-in (RBI) double in the top of the first inning.
The Pirates’ starter, Jeff Karstens, held the Padres to no-hit. He pitched another shutout inning, before allowing homers in the third innings.
In this inning, the Padres’ starter, Mat Latos, after giving two early runs, landed the plate with the bat and launched a phenomenal homer off Karstens.
The second baseman, Eric Patterson, followed Latos and touched the second homer of the game for another run.
As the game was tied at 2-2, Cameron Maybin splashed to the left side of the field for a lead producing RBI single.
Latos gave a phenomenal performance not only with his bat, but also with his pitching since after an expensive first innings, he tossed five shutout innings. Latos took out five batters and allowed just two walks to put his team back on the winning track.
The game once again went away into the Pirates court when the Padres’ pitcher, Luke Gregerson, relieved Latos in the seventh inning. Luke tossed juicy pitches for the Pirates sluggers, Matt Diaz and Andrew McCutchen. They took full advantage of these pitches
and earned RBI runs for their team. It took the Pirates to a 5-3 lead.
Padres’ Chris Denorfia led off the seventh with a single and Jason Bartlett hit to shortstop for another single while Denorfia reached the second base.
Realising that the current play was devastating for the club, the Pirates’ skipper, Clint Hurdle, changed reliever Mike Crotta with Joe Beimel.
However, the move did not work as Patterson bunt a single that gave Denorfia a chance to steal third and Bartlett to steal second base.
With two loaded-bases, Joe went under extreme pressure and tossed four balls allowing a run scoring walk to Ryan Ludwick.
On the next pitch, Jorge Cantu hit a grounder for a RBI double that again tied the score at 5-5.
It was a tense moment for the skippers as well as for both the teams’ relievers. The Padres hurler, Mike Adams, escaped the pressure with a scoreless eighth inning.
However, Joe could not gather his full form and allowed a homer that remained a difference between both the teams until the end, Padres gaining a run to win 6-5.
