The San Francisco Giants looking to make a comeback
If anything that tinges the baseball games with potent flavour, it is the exhilarating entertainment and breathtakingly thrilling moments. The game of course has its other nuances. But an eager fan will truthfully admit: It is the sensational moments, the
close encounters that promise joy and jubilation.
Among the teams that have continued to catch the game followers breath is San Francisco Giants. They were not unpredictable team, if truth be told, when they entered to this World Series. They were, in fact, one of the strongest contenders to become champions
– once again.
San Francisco Giants won the 2010 Series with the pride of a champion. They won it at a time when New York Yankees were unbeatable along with other strong contenders who were putting their heart and soul to succeed. Not that San Francisco was invulnerable.
They pretty much were. However, they had a determination too. The last time they had won the World Series was in 1954. The 2010 win, the achievement must have at the same time buoyed and humbled the team equipped with determination, including talent.
In 2011, however, San Francisco has had an exceedingly tough time to prove their mettle. But nowhere, not even for a while, have they given up hopes to shine once again. Starting the Series with merely two wins of six was nothing but a harbinger of something
disastrous. However, the adversity the team has borne has actually solidified their will to play a champion-like game. Taking advantage of every player’s contribution – a genuine team work, they have put behind their seemingly embarrassing start in the season.
Although they initially struggled, the Giants bounced back and have been consistently performing well since then without looking back. They are now looking forward to coming up with something that can once again win them glory.
It is this certain inward determination to excel that makes the Giants confident to be the best ones in the game. Brian Wilson, the team’s closer, puts it succinctly: "Resilience! We do play nine innings and not one person on this team forgets about that.
Regardless of giving up the lead, we don't play for stats here. We play to win." And they really do. They initially seemed to have a fairly difficult sail, but they took charge of their enterprise.
The Giants won the both home series, like said earlier, this Season after starting with an ostensibly irreparable 2-4 loss. They won the two consecutive home series against St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers. The very fact that a sold out crowd
turned in showed the level of enthusiasm and hopes attached to San Francisco Giants. Remaining a strong side and the defending champions, San Francisco can outplay any team and that is what they have done in this season as well.
Wilson does not hide the open secret of what enables his team to win despite several unpleasant odds San Francisco have undergone here: "We've been playing one-run games since I've been here," said Wilson, who also pitched a perfect ninth inning to save
his second game in a row. "We're well-versed in the manner. The bullpen knows what it needs to do. There's a roar in the crowd and an extra energy that helps us lift each other up and eventually take the lead."
If the Giants continue to play aggressive baseball, they can go far in the season. Only time will tell if they can copy their success from last year.
