Question:

The School District Caused Me to Unknowingly Lie on Job Applications. Do I have Recourse?

On applications it asks, "Have you ever been non-reelected?"...and all along I have been checking the NO box (since I was only told I was laid off); so basically I have been lying but I didn't even know I was lying! I was only told I was laid off!

A nice principal who was interested in interviewing me for a teaching position could not because the district office told her I was non-reelected, which she told me. Shouldn't I have received a letter of non-reelection?

My evaluations, recommendations, and everything about my teaching were great for a first year teacher. I'm fully credentialled and passed all the tests. There is no reason I can think of for why I am on the "non-reelect" list.

How dare the district tarnish my reputation and make it so I can't find employment in other school districts and not even have the nerve to tell me to my face or in writing?

  1. The same thing happened to me! I tried to get a job in the best school system in the entire state. I was told to resign from my former school district. The other school district automatically assumed that I was "non-reelected" and refused to give me an interview.

Do not give up! Be honest at every single interview. (If you can make it that far!) Bring every evaluation, recommendation, and everything else to the interview.
