  1. Because it is the Teeth of the Constitution. Think about it, we assume the Government will obey and protect the constitution. We know or should know it's fool hardy to actually trust the Government completely regardless of who's in power. Our founding fathers expected that one day we might have to change our government by force.

  2. A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

because its saying that its ok to have guns... for protection. if not... what are we gonna use when stupid people come after us?

  3. To put it bluntly, the Second Amendment insures that we maintain the others. What do I mean by that? Well, first I should explain why the second amendment was included in the constitution. The right to bear arms has little to do with hunting, target practice, or home/self - defense although it does ensure them. In fact the right to bear arms is designed to protect us from our own government.

The Founding Fathers gave individuals the right to own and bear firearms because they saw the need of the people to keep a government in check. An armed society is far more difficult to suppress than an unarmed society. Take a look at history for a moment...

One of the first laws passed by Hitler in n**i Germany was an ordinance that prohibited any Jew from owning or possessing a firearm. Thousands of firearms were seized in the name of safety - and what happened? Jews were left defenseless against a powerful tyrannical government. 12 Million Jews were murdered in one of the most horrific genocides of the 20th century. There are currently 500 million firearms in worldwide circulation - or one for every 12 people. So what if the Jews had been armed? What if instead of a helpless population of civilians Hitler's SS faced one million pissed off armed Jews? Do you think the holocaust would have played out the same way? I'll admit that this is mere speculation, but history shows time and time again that one of the first moves made by tyrannical governments is to limit or eliminate civilian gun ownership - essentially rendering them defenseless from their own government.

So why is the second amendment important? Because it protects us, and our rights. You can call the Police when a criminal tries to attack you( although that's another issue altogether ), but who exactly do you call when the police attack you? It's not pretty - I'm not going to sugarcoat it - but the plain and simple fact is that the second amendment is in place to protect us from our own government and protect our rights.

  4. Having the right to keep and bear arms protects us from tyants - foreign and domestic. That means people like bush, obama, mccain, biden, clinton, or any other elitish slime that oozes out of D.C.

  5. Our brilliant founders gave the citizens of these United States the Bill of Rights to assure our freedom.

Power corrupts. Too much power in the hands of too few guarantees corruption.

Our founders knew that, so they spread the pow as far and wide as possible. You right to carry a gun assures you that a tyrant can't overwhelm the citizens of this nation.

Money is power also. High taxes takes your power and gives it to the tyrants that wish to dominate you.

Never vote for anyone who wishes to raise taxes. It only assures more tyranny.

  6. Its most important because of the dipshit first answerer to your question but mainly, because you have stupid laws that allow criminals to get away with crimes and corrupt govenrments. Thank GOD that our foregathers had the wisdom enough to make not just the 2nd amendment but to actually make it 2nd on the list!

  7. It has nothing to do with hunting or some state run militia and very little to do with self defence.  It's primary function is the deterrence of a power hungry extremist corrupt government like Hitler or Pol Pot (or Clinton's was or Obama's will be.)

    To the Democrap :

The monitoring of foreign communications, with a courts order, is not an infringement of any Constitutional right.

The detention of foreign terrorists, not even in the country, is not un-Constitutional, they don't even have Constitutional rights.

You liberal liars are doing far more to destroy this country than terrorist scum like bin Laden.

  8. So we can keep shooting each other, being the most unsafe country in the OECD, have the highest crime and murder rate in the G7 and big business can keep us afraid of each other!

Oh yeah, all the yahoos carrying weapons everywhere are a "well organized militia."

  9. We aren't the most dangerous country. England doesn't record crimes unless they're solved. So when someone gets shot and the cops cant find out who the shooter was, the shooting isn't recorded in the statistics. It's a little known fact, but they basically just do it to make the crime stats look better to attract more tourists and the like. It's actually getting so bad in London that parliament is literally considering banning pointed kitchen knives. Don't believe me?

Viscount Bridgeman: In the tragic environment in which we live, with its large incidence of knife crime, committed so often with short blades from the kitchen drawer, we might be forgiven for feeling that we were taking part in a fringe performance.

Also, most of the high crime rate in this country comes from the few places that have extremely strict gun laws such as NYC, Chicago, Washington DC, etc.

Most of the gun friendly areas in this country enjoy lower crime. Take Las Vegas in comparison to NYC. I went to Las Vegas a few years ago, a place so gun friendly that when I was walking through the terminal to go to baggage claim their was a giant poster add for a gun range down the street offering machine guns for rental. The worst thing I hear of while I was their was a man stole a tv and road away on a mountain bike (weird, I know, but that's beyond the point). When I was in NYC a few years ago, a place so un-gun friendly that it's all but impossible to get a firearm. I turned on the tv in my hotel room and heard about an 8 year old boy shooting a 10 year old girl in the face with a handgun at point blank range, a woman who was shot through a window while scratching off a lottery ticket, several stabbings, and so on. I watched that channel for about 20 minutes, seeing nothing but reports of crimes before I got tired of it and turned off the tv.

"False is the idea of utility that sacrifices a thousand real advantages for one imaginary or trifling inconvenience; that would take fire from men because it burns, and water because one may drown in it; that has no remedy for evils except destruction. The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Can it be supposed that those who have the courage to violate the most sacred laws of humanity, the most important of the code, will respect the less important and arbitrary ones, which can be violated with ease and impunity, and which, if strictly obeyed, would put an end to personal liberty... and subject innocent persons to all the vexations that the guilty alone ought to suffer? Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. They ought to be designated as laws not preventive but fearful of crimes, produced by the tumultuous impression of a few isolated facts, and not by thoughtful consideration of the inconveniences and advantages of a universal decree."

  10. "Having the right to keep and bear arms protects us from tyants - foreign and domestic. That means people like bush, obama, mccain, biden, clinton, or any other elitish slime that oozes out of D.C."

So why are they still causing all this trouble to you and the rest of us in the world????????

  11. Several reasons:

Self Defense: There are more than 2 million reported cases of legally owned guns being used in self defense (and conservative estimates say that anywhere from 1/3 to 1/2 of legal defensive gun uses go unreported). less than 0.1% of these end in a fatality and less than 1% end in an injury. Government and private studies and statistics have routinely showed that gun control laws do nothing to reduce crime. In fact, stricter gun control like waiting periods, bans, extra fees, extra licensing and other restrictions often lead to an increase of crime. Most burglaries in the US are committed when the residents are away because so many people in the US own guns. Polls of convicted felons indicate that as many as 70% of burglars avoided robbing an occupied home because they were afraid of being shot by the resident. The UK banned handguns and gun crimes have soared. The UK now has a violent crime rate almost twice that of the US. States that pass concealed carry laws never see an increase of crime (if crime was already rising, the rate in which it rose was decreased if not reversed). Most states that pass concealed carry laws see a notable decrease in crime and multiple victim shootings.

National Defense: During World War 2, both the German and Japanese leadership stressed that it would be a bad move to invade the US due to the high ownership of guns among the civilian population. The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan was repelled mostly by privately owned weapons of the Afghan people. Our nation was created by men using their own weapons to fight. The first US forces in the Revolutionary War were civilians using their private firearms. The 2nd Amendment states that the poluation should have the right to bear arms in order to form a militia. A militia is not replaced by the military. A militia in in case the military can't handle the threat itself (or at all).

Freedom from Oppresion: The first thing that always happens before a group of people is opressed is a gun ban. Pol Pot banned guns before his genocide, as did Hitler. Stalin banned guns then killed and imprisone millions. Sadam tried to keep the Kurds from possesing weapons. Instances in which guns were used in this application have also taken place here in the US. For example, The Battle of Blair Mountain was a conflict in which coal miners were fighting back against the corrupt local government and the coal companies that were opressing them. The Battle of Athens, Tennesee in 1946 was an instance were recently returned GIs deposed a corrupt county governemnt. What about Shay's Rebellion? The Whisky Rebelion? All of these are cases in which Americans felt their rights were being infringed. Non-violent and political methods failed so they used force. Private ownership of weapons keeps the government honost. A gun puts the power in the hand of the every-man. When the pistol was invented, the European aristocracy felt threatened by it because wipespread ownership of guns by the peasents meant that the elite could no longer abuse and opress the lower classes.

One must not also forget the factors of sport, hunting, and collecting historical pieces. Legally owned guns are almost never used in illegal applications. The 2nd Ammendment is what defends and protects the rest of the Bill of Rights. The 2nd Ammendment gives Americans the right to defend their rights. As long as Americans are allowed to own firearms, we will be among the hardest group to opress.
