The Security Guard in my plant is rather obnoxious while blowing the horn on his three wheel bicycle......?

I work in a large manufacturing plant and the Security Guard uses a three wheel bicycle to do his rounds efficiently. The bicycle he uses has a horn...you know, the ones with the bulb that you squeeze. Anyway, the plant rules state that all moving vehicles in the plant must sound their horn at intersections. He does, but he squeezes that thing at least a dozen times and it's driving me crazy! He's following the rules by doing so, but one or two squeezes on the horn is enough....not a dozon or more. How can I tell him to knock it off in a polite way? He does a good job and all, I'm just sick of hearing that horn going off like that.

  1. Just ask him politely.

I tell you though, after seeing how some forklift drivers move I don't blame him at all, and I bet he wishes he had flashing lights and a siren like a cop car uses to enter an intersection.

  2. Start talking to him few a minute every few days. Start out by saying hello and ask him a question about something to start a short conversation. Then after about a week or two with a funny smile say, " Hey does that horn ever bother you?" "I would think that it would because it's so loud." "It reminds me of this little dog I had that wouldn't stop barking."

Try something like that and after you are friendly he will probably help you out. Security guard are defensive many times, but the key for them is if you give them respect they might open up.

    Good luck!

  3. Sounds like he is either a bit simple minded or a bit of a noise lover.

You could say something to him, but if you do you risk that he will then do it purposely because he knows it irritates you (attention seeking).

You might be better off to try to ignore it, and hope he'll get sick of it soon.

If not, discuss it with your work colleagues, if enough of you find it irritating, you could talk to him as a group, or talk to the boss.

  4. Ha ha - sorry, but that's just funny. He's probably bored out of his mind and trying to stay awake.

Ask him nice, and say please?

  5. Ask him to honk just a few times when he is near your station. Tell him it's driving you nuts. If he doesn't stop then my advise is to get used to it.

  6. I'm so glad you don't live in my moms neighborhood where the vendors with home made cart's blow their horn to sell corn, or ice's and other goodies they are constantly passing by blowing the horns...lol

i guess i would check out the horn while he was in his break....if you know what i mean ...lol

I know James replace it with a less annoying horn....
