The Seminoles improve to 13-0 on the season – Volleyball news
The women’s sand volleyball squad of Florida State University took its winning streak to 13-0 by achieving success in the last dual matches on Friday.
The Seminoles played under the team of guest team but did not let the hosts to benefit from familiar conditions. Stetson University team was the other team in the competition but suffered 0-5 damage. The FSU ladies completely launched authority on the rivals
and maintained their winning streak. All the thrilling sand volleyball action took place at the Stetson Sand Volleyball Complex, which was pretty much crowded with mixed bag of spectators.
The Friday’s match was covered in total five flights, where FSU only dropped one set. The action kick started with opening affair between Aurora Newgard/Brittany Tiegs of Florida State University and home duo of Julie Bassett and Kaley Melville. The visitors
take a good start and remained remarkably consistent in the attack and defence. The Hatters dropped the first set after scoring only 13 points, while dropped the decision by losing second set in row with 10 points. The set score of the first sessions were:
21-13, 21-11.
Following the loss of first flight, the pairing of Maren Rygh and Alexa Stonish entered the centre court with an ambition to down the guest duo. They cross their path with FSU’s Melanie Pavels and Visnja Djurdjevic. The hosts fought bravely but could not
score more than 14 points in both sets. Steton squad received second loss of the day as scoreboard showed 0-2 (14-21, 14-21).
Stephanie Pelliteri AND Jace Pardon of FSU further extended the winning record of Seminoles to 3-0 by capturing next match. They posted 2-0 (21-17, 21-14) victory over Stetson’s Alisha Hoffman and Taylor Story.
In the fourth session of the match, Katie DiGirolamo/Stephanie Marin of Steton managed to claim one set in the match. They received 1-2 (16-21, 21-19, 10-15) defeat from Jeassica McGregor/Sarah Wickstrom of FSU.
Caitlin Haworth/Mallory Kiley led FSU to 5-0 by defeated Savannah Byl/Kaylee Ream in the final round. They scored 2-0 (21-10, 21-15) victory in order to finish the match in a splendid way.
The winning head coach Danalee Corso praised the wonderful effort of her players. She congratulated them for victory and also urged them to stick to the plan. She disclosed her thoughts in the following manner, “We had a tough week of practice, so I'm happy
with the results today. Having us play tired this week was part of my plan. That's what we are going to have to do to win at Nationals in a few weeks. We played great today.”
The coach especially took out the names of two outstanding players, who did an amazing job. Corso said, “Stephanie and Jace really stepped up today. That was a great win. They probably stepped up the most of anybody today because they haven't really played
together.”
Next up the Seminoles will be preparing for another great feat at the upcoming Siesta Key Tournament, which is scheduled to take centre stage next week.
