The Sierra Club?

Yesterday a saw a lady driving a Ford excursion, (the biggest most polluting SUV Ford makes) and low and behold she had a sierra club sticker on the back. WTF?? I guess the 3 toes turtle is more important than her childrens air. What is the deal with that?

you should go to your local library and check when the sierra club is having there next meeting and go to it.

first you will find that there will be two types of cars that will be common in the parking lot at sierra club meetings

many will be like what you saw gas guzzlers.

some will be old presmog junker driven by the old hippie types.

then go in and hang out.

this will really scare you.

and last go on one of there weekend outings.

and see how many show up in there motor-homes.

and how few tent camp.

i know all this because i used to be a sierra club member.

i left when in the early 1970s the hippies took over

before that it was a hiking and climbing club

i rejoined in 1985 as a undercover spy for the small mining and logging trade groups.

three time as a spy the sierra club chapters i was a member of tried to elect me as a president or officer of the chapter.

this can be seen by the fact that Dave Foreman one of the founders of earth also was on the board of directors of the sierra club.

Consider the function of the Vehicle.

What is it being used for ?

Not the polution it creates.

A school bus "pollutes" a lot more than other vehicles but it does not run as much and carries more people.  

Dont judge a book by its cover.

You dont know Who she is, what she is doing , or How the sticker got there.

Seems hypocritical, but you don't know the whole story of why that sticker is on that dinosaur-burner.

In NJ we had the head of a large environmental group driving an Excursion.  He took a very nice public beating in the newspaper.

Maybe it is run on biodiesel:-)

It's all about hypocracy.  They know all the answers but do not make any sacrifices to make a difference or do anything proactive or constructive.

The Sierra Club could surely do a lot better in its efforts to protect the air, water, soil, and food which affects the health of people in this country and throughout the world.  

But I suspect that like any big organization that has been around for a long time, there are interests of those running it that take precedent over the interests for which the organization was founded.  

So there is lip service on many issues, especially those that affect peoople.   And  I think it is also elitist, so environmental problems which affect those who are not in their social caste will be ignored.
