The Sri Lankan pitches have changed over the years, says MS Dhoni – Cricket News Update
Talking about the forthcoming http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028, has expressed that the nature of Sri Lankan pitches has changed over the years and now they tend to support the seam bowlers more, as compared
to the spinners.
The illustrious tournament is going to commence from September 18th at Hambantota, with England looking to defend their title. There is a general perception that the Island’s tracks are slow and low and are likely to assist
the teams which depend on their spinners.
This is the reason why teams like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 are rated as favourites to clinch the trophy this time round.
The Indian captain however, feels otherwise, and said that the slow bowlers may not get enough help in the tournament’s early stages.
The wicketkeeper/batsman first toured the Island in 2005 and believes that the pitches have changed enormously over the last seven years.
"I feel the conditions in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 have changed a lot in the past years. When we came here in 2005, the wickets were different and when we came here last time [in July 2012], the wickets were different," Dhoni said. "The spinners
did not get much help from the pitches in the five ODIs and one T20 we played here in our last tour."
The cricketer's opinion about the Sri Lankan tracks is crucial because he led India to a One Day International (ODI) series victory in the Island recently and also defeated the home team in the sole T20 International of the tour.
The Indian captain is of the opinion that the spinners’ role will increase as the tournament progresses, with the pitches starting to deteriorate. This is the reason why Dhoni thinks that the teams will have to adjust their strategies
accordingly with the passage of time.
"If a ground is hosting many matches, then it will slow down and the spinners will get help. So we have to see the conditions and plan accordingly," the Indian skipper added.
