The Starting Problem

we tried to turn our mp3 digital player on but in stead of staring right away, it said starting... we let it sit for a while to give it time but it still said starting... we decided to try taking the battery out and try a new battery. we put in a whole new battery in. as soon as we put the new battery in the screen STILL said starting... finaly we gave up and left it on the counter to see if it would turn on again. 48 hours later we checked on it. we thought it would be turned on by now. but it WASN'T. PLEASE HELP US!
