Well, ignoring the existential overtones of your question *g*, the sun powers life.  The sun itself is powered by a nuclear reaction, which changes hydrogen into helium...once all the hydrogen is used up, it'll start changing helium into a heavier element, but that's another question entirely.  Based on life here and now, our entire food web is dependent on light from the sun in one way or another.  While life exists in deep ocean trenches and caves and revolves around other chemical processes, most creatures need the sunlight for one reason or another.

  4. The sun powers life.  All life can trace its energy use back to the sun.  The sun provides the energy for plants to grow which are eaten by animals and some animals eat those animals.

    Essentially plants convert energy from the sun into fuel life uses to, well, live.
