The veteran trainer has expressed that European Cup is the most prestigious tournament in world of football and should be the top priority, while dubbing the Supercopa de Espana as a relatively unimportant competition.
While giving an interview for Real Madrid’s official website, the team’s manager, Jose Mourinho, looked back at the Spanish Supercup victory his side managed by overwhelming Barcelona on away goals.
The 49-year-old argued that Los Blancos cannot call their Supercup victory a size-able triumph as they are competing in much more important competitions. He exclaimed that when the season is over, he would not like to count it as a significant trophy, hoping
that Real Madrid would have achieved far better by then.
However, Mourinho did assert that winning the Spanish Supercup was important at the same time as Los Merengues needed to beat Barcelona in that particular competition.
According to the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan manager, beating the Catalan club was something that gave the Spanish giants a mental edge.
He added that it was a great performance by the Whites and that they completely deserved to emerge victorious from it. The Special One also emphasized that since Madrid had not beaten the Catalans at the Santiago Bernabeu, the victory was an important one.
“I’ve always said that the Supercup of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 is the less important competition. However, the Barcelona’s being the rival, it acquires a different meaning and significance. We won it and we deserved to be the winner. It was important because the Real Madrid
had not defeated the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 at the Bernabéu stadium for several seasons in a row. Now, the Champions League is the best of all,” the 49-year-old was quoted as saying.
Continuing the discussion, the Portuguese looked back at the disappointing start that his side experienced to the new season. He admitted that Los Blancos were not spot on at the start of the season, however, they have recovered.
“I didn’t like the team’s play nor our performance early in the match. Later on we started a period of growth, stability and, above all, of psychological improvement,” said the Special One.
