The Tampa Bay Rays fall to the mighty Texans
When it comes to the playoffs, anything can happen and when it was time for the post-season to begin, the best teams in Major League Baseball clashed for the World Series title. With nothing to lose and everything to gain, the three division champions and
the wildcard berth team faced off in a series of matches to go through to the final stages of the contest to determine the last standing winner in the league.
With the Philadelphia Phillies, San Francisco Giants and the New York Yankees through to the next stage, the Texas Rangers collided with the East division champions, Tampa Bay Rays to decide which one of them was going to proceed forward to the finals. With
a contest stretching to the 5th game, there was nothing there to stop the two goliaths from clashing into each other for the decider in bid for the World Series title.
David Price was pitching for the Rays and the legendary Cliff Lee was on for the Rangers. Having met in the 1st game of the playoffs, the latter was successful and it wasn’t a surprise for the Rangers pitcher to take the chip out of the wood off
the Rays’ intent. The strong man pitched a restraining game to the opponents with his slick left arm. He conceded 6 hits off which 1 run was scored by Sean Rodriguez. To top it off, his Earning Runs average in the post-season fell to 1.13. The formidable ball
thrower took out a batting line up with a best strike out figure of 11. The number makes him the leading strike out expert in the playoffs, having beaten Cole Hamels (Philadelphia) number of 9 in the third game against the Cincinnati Reds.
Josh Hamilton was the orchestrator for the Rangers as the Most Valuable Player candidate grounded out to lead Elvis Andrus to the first run of the match. Rays responded with Rodriguez in the 3rd inning who then went past the last base off Ben
Zobrist’s single to the centre. Nelson Cruz however, was the next man through, as he scored the 2nd for the Rangers off an error by catcher Kelly Shoppach.
From there on out, Ian Kinsler was the man to roll the dice for the Rangers. His grounder shot into the fielder’s choice to first, saw Vladimir Guerrero go past the catcher for the 3rd run. And to end the bout, Kinsler stunned the Rays’ home crowd
with a 2 run homer to the left.
