Peter Schmeichel: £550,000
Peter Schmeichel is a forty seven year old retired Danish goal keeper. He is remembered by most football followers and especially by Manchester United fans. He started his youth career in 1972 with Hoje-Gladsaxe and after moving through another youth academy
he made it to the big leagues in 1981.
He started off with Gladsaxe- Hero, after three years and forty six appearances he made a move to Hvidore then Brondy. Then in 1991 he made a move to the English Premier League and made a signing with Manchester United.
He stayed at Old Trafford for the next eight years and made two hundred and ninety two appearances in the process, he then made a move to Sporting CP, then Aston Villa and then to the Manchester City and after another twenty nine appearances he announced
retirement from professional football in 2003.
Interestingly he actually scored a goal as a playing goal keeper with Aston Villa in 2002. Sir Alex Ferguson actually called this Danish as the signing of the century at a bargain price. The Scottish manager told this to the media only after a year of signing
him and he was right as he made almost three hundred appearances for the Red Devils and is considered by most as one of the best all time goal keepers.
He actually won five English Premier League titles playing with the Red Devils and to add to that he also won a Champions League, a league cup, three FA Cups and was a vital part of the Manchester United squad that won the treble.
Peter Schemichel’s peaks as a goal keeper came with Manchester United, and a single moment that would be remembered in Football and Manchester United history was when this Danish made a penalty save made by Dennis Bergkamp and put the game into extra time
in the FA Cup semi finals match.
He was also the standing captain in the absence of the illustrious Roy Keane and he is a true figure of football excellence.
Denis Irwin: £625,000
Denis Irwin is the forty five year old retired footballer who used to play for Manchester United, he started his professional football career with Leeds united in 1983 and made seventy two appearances with a single goal scored before making a move to Oldham
Athletic in 1986.
Then after another hundred and sixty seven appearances with four goals netted he made a move again to Old Trafford in 1990 where he spent the next twelve years and reached the peak of his football career.
Denis Irwin plays as a left back and became a Manchester United legend in his decade with the Red Devils; he made three hundred and sixty eight appearances with twenty goals scored.
Later on he made one last move to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2002 and in the next two years he made seventy five appearances and then retired from professional football.
Irwin had a reputation as a penalty specialist and with the Red Devils he actually won a whopping seven English Premier League titles with a champions league win and three FA Cup wins. Sir Alex Ferguson actually made Denis Irwin the captain of the team in
the final game that was against Charlton and then played for a standing ovation when he was leaving Manchester United in 2003 and this came in the fixture against the Wolves.
