The Texas Rangers sign Arthur Rhodes on a 1 year deal
The Texas Rangers are one of the teams riding high in to 2011. Though things have hit the wrong end of the curb in the off-season period, the club has the expectations of a mega team that is reinforced by the fans, who would like to see the squad prevail
in the coming years. The team has a new ruling board authority in the organization headquarters, which is looking to capitalize on its gain in the future.
The Rangers lost Cliff Lee to the Philadelphia Phillies this year and since that outcome, the team is looking for a key replacement for the departed veteran. While the management is focusing in on Brandon Webb for the role, the clubhouse has gone out to
acquire the services of a relief pitcher that can make a major difference in the bullpen.
Arthur Rhodes, who belonged to the Cincinnati Reds, last season, has penned a one year deal with the Texans and despite being 41 years old, looks to make an impact in key games if Ron Washington calls him in. Rhodes played less for the Reds but did manage
to keep his deliveries up to the mark of the team’s requirement.
Rhodes piled up an Earning runs average of 2.29 in 69 appearances for the Reds. He went 4 (Wins) – 4 (Losses) and allowed just 18 walks and 38 hits. He was also able to set a major league record for availing a 33 consecutive scoreless feature. The maestro
registered 50 strikeouts as well.
The Rangers are looking on adding the likes of Webb and Vladimir Guerrero on for the next year. Their luck in the winter dealings has been hitting average and General Manager Jon Daniels was able to give his perspective on the issue.
"We've been engaged with a handful of higher-profile deals - some of which have been resolved, some which haven't," Jon Daniels said. "And we'll continue to look at those. We'd love to make an impact pickup if it fits what we're trying to do, and doesn't
jeopardize our long-term goals. "
He further explained the current situation that is prevailing at the club, concerning players being signed on.
"We went into the off-season knowing there were only a few higher profile impact pitchers available," Daniels said. "If we don't add one from that group, we'll continue to build our depth, give ourselves options in March. It puts a greater emphasis on holding
onto and developing our own. There's talent and there's opportunity so we'll see who seizes it."
