The Texas Rangers’ two dark stars shine bright
The Texas Rangers have been unlucky in their run for the World Series. The team has never won the big prize in Major League Baseball and when there are not that many opportunities in the years, it becomes a formidable task for the ball club to do what they
have never been able to do in a lifetime. In retrospect, there hasn’t been much action faced by the side in the last decades since its inauguration. The last time the side found itself in the playoffs was back in 1999. Back then, the only current squad member
in the team was Michael Young. When this season began, nothing was absolute in the West division and in respect to the teams competing in the region, there were no likely winners.
When the season started rolling, two personalities who were openly criticised in the side by the fans and the management started shinning for the ball club by turning in great number of results. The first figure was Ron Washington. The man who was regarded
as a well respected figure in the league had succumbed to the depths of the abyss with a controversial tie down on cocaine consumption. Demonized across Texas, the skipper was looking to lose his position in the club but the management didn’t take any action
against the veteran as they continued on with his services in the team. The gaffer was quick to quell his critics with a public apology in which he openly admitted to his open addiction and appealed to the fans on letting him do his job as the manager for
the side.
While the public apology somewhat soothed the crowd’s impression of the skipper, there was still one more individual to consider, who in the spring break, made a faltering lean on the nerves of the supporters. Josh Hamilton had been in and out of rehab for
more years than one could imagine seeing a ball player being in. His addiction to drugs did him the justice of missing out an opportunity to shine in the league. It wasn’t till the Rangers came knocking on his door for another chance at the Majors. The veteran
was involved in a drinking incident in a local pub and that caught wind in the press as a video of his antics was scattered across countless television networks. One would expect the habit to be acceptable, considering his past but, that wasn’t the whole case.
Hamilton had been calling himself a stern Christian in the eyes of the public. After accepting Jesus as his saviour, in his own words, he vowed not to indulge in immoral conduct. However, the incident found on the occasion a completely beaten Hamilton. He
was forgiven by the supporters in the league when he publicly apologized and earned a great level of gratitude from the management with his performances on the field.
Where one comes to see the two people who made the Rangers look bad, before the 2010 season, there is much to say about their contribution in the Texans fortunes, this year. The two have managed to make their supporters believe in a team victory and it comes
as a surprise in many peoples’ eyes.
Ron Washington has turned the performance of the club all around. They ranked 1st in the regular season with a batting average of .276 and in addition to that, they topped the West division to make it into the post season. The side won its first
ever playoff recently and is looking to grab the American League Championship.
Hamilton, on the other hand, has been exceptionally consistent with his performance. The hammer smashed 32 home runs this season and registered a complete 100 Runs Batted In. His batting average of .359 makes him the likely winner of the Most Valuable Player
in Major League Baseball.
It’s amazing to see how two people can do well for the club when they seemed to be going down a dark path in their transgressions. Many would have wanted them gone at the start of this year but now, nobody can imagine that happening any time soon.
