The Thornbury Golf Centre welcomes its first female general manager
Mel Drake is the new general manager of the Thornbury Golf Centre.
Mel took over the Thornbury Golf Centre’s public 'pay and play' venue as one of the first female general managers.
The general manager took hold of an office that is a part of the Burhill Golf & Leisure and is one of the UK’s largest GC proprietor and operatives. She took over the office in December and connected her ties with a management that holds two golf courses,
1 driving range and an 11 bedroom Lodge.
She also has some upgrades in her mind for the GC.
"Thornbury Golf Centre is a wonderful setting. It holds not only golfing events but it is also a place for business meetings, conferences and weddings as well" said Mel.
About the reception, the GM said that the staff is just excellent and further added that they made her feel very welcoming, strengthening the plans for future and investments.
Mel Drake has previously served at the post of general manager at The Vale Golf Club. With her experience in Worcestershire, Mel has plans on protecting investments to upgrade the changing rooms within the golf centre. Along with the earlier stated, the
golfer has plans on upgrading the bathrooms in The Lodge, Thornbury's Grade II.
She considers Christmas as one of the most important time of year and said that it is a time when most people come together and enjoy a few rounds of golf.
"Christmas is the most imperative occasions of the year. People are usually seen playing a lot of golf which starts from Boxing Day and carried till the New Year's Day. Most families usually come together and play a few rounds of golf with a few drinks”
said Mel.
According to Mike Smedley, winter comes with the best opportunity to sharpen up one’s skills. He is the Head PGA Professional at Thornbury and believes that if a golfer wants some major improvement in his or her skills, then this is the best time to play
at the Thornbury Golf Centre.
“Whatever the weather is, we always try to keep the course open. We pride ourselves on guaranteeing no winter greens and tee mats." Said Mel, the new General Manager.
