I will be in a motorhome and want to get onto the mountain. Will I have to be there a day or more before to drive and park on the mountain?

  1. Road Map here:

  2. The crowds will start gathering on L'Alpe D'Huez several days, possibly a week before the stage comes through. If you want a good "seat", get there as many days ahead as you can.

  3. I followed the mountain stages in 2003 by bicycle, sometimes riding ahead of the tour, and only once did I run into a problem with the route being closed -- to all traffic, including bicycles.  That took place about 3 hours before the riders were due to come through.  They run it sort of like a rolling advance road block, so the entire route is not shut down for the day, just a few hours before the field is expected.

  4. download route map from here
