The Trains slopestyle event at Alpine Meadows concludes
The fourth edition of the Trains slopestyle event went down this Saturday, 16 April, at the Alpine Meadows in California. The event, presented by High Fives Foundation, featured five different categories. These included the top male, top female, best high five, best trick and best trains team. By the end of the day, the winners of the various categories had donated US$3,000 to selected charitable organisations.
The Trains slope-style event gathered an impressive line-up of both professional and top amateur skiers and snowboarders to compete in the contests with unconventional format, best high five and best train. Twenty male skiers, four female skiers and six snowboarders came to Alpine Meadows to participate in the unique event. The thirty-one athletes were divided into teams of five to result in a total of six teams. The skiers and riders of the same team hit the slope and the jumps one after the other, taking on an appearance of a human train. The team’s train was judged on the basis of style and creativity.
The Grey Team, comprising of Davis Souza, Austin Simonpietri, Sean Collin, Andy McDowell and Peter Kukesh, managed to put down the most impressive group run of the day. Their run was planned nicely and they did well to utilize all the features and two huge jumps that were present on the course. They were the only ones to hit the C. R Johnson special rail feature. For the high five, Kukesh got on top of a barrel and received a high five from Souza and Collin while they front flipped. The outstanding performances earned them victory in the high five as well as the best train category.
The Grey Team donated their US$500 winnings from the best train category to Shane McConkey Foundation. The US$500 prize money from the best high five category was donated to the Alpine Meadows Ski Foundation.
Prior to the best high five and best train contests, the athletes participated in a two-hour individual session. The top male category was won by Parker White. White laid down an amazing run, showcasing his flawless style and skills. He donated the US$500 winnings to Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports Foundation. Grete Eliassen won the top female category to get her hands on $500. She donated it to the Neuro Recovery Network. Brandon Reis won the best trick award by throwing down a front-side double cork 1080 on his skateboard. He donated his US$500 winnings to SkiDuck.
Even though the winners donated their winnings to charitable organisation, they still got to take home trophies and lots of prizes from the sponsors. The entire event saw the spectators as well as the athletes having fun. Everyone was happy to become a part of an event that was working for such a noble cause.
